WR Drop rates for notable QBs:
D.Watson, 16.5%
J.Rosen, 12.7%
J.Barrett, 10.6%
B.Kaaya, 8.9%
J.Browning, 4.6%

Watson doesn't throw a catchable ball......

Lol then it wouldn't be considered a drop

He reminds me of Donovan McNabb for some reason, think its his accuracy
this is my first game really evaluating watson and the clemson offense. Really reminds me of Chip's offense which is good and bad. The whole run on 1st and 2nd and then short pass on 3rd to get a first down is very predictable but he good thing about it is that watson is really good at converting that short pass on third down. His transition to our team would be very easy.

Also, that deep ball is a f'n LASER!

Offense has been up and down. Deshaun has made some great throws but missed an easy bomb TD and had a terrible pick 6. Clemson is running up and down the field but has turned the ball over 4 times in the redzone. Twice on the six-inch line. Ouch. RB Gallman got knocked out cold on first drive.

Gallman KO'd! NC State's kicker is blowing this game for them
What a crazy game. Clemson tried to give NCST the game with the turnovers in the redzone, but NCST gave it back with that choke job by the kicker.

Watson wasn't perfect (one missed deep ball and the pick 6), but he set a personal record with 39 completions. He went 39-52 for 378 yards with 2 TDs in the air and 35 yards rushing with 1 TD on the ground. He came up like a stud in OT with some incredible throws to set up the TD. The TD throw was beautiful as he negotiated the pocket and then threw it low like a laser down the middle where only his receiver could scoop it in the endzone. He completed something like 14 in a row at one point, which is impressive given that there were at least 5 drops by the receivers. Without the redzone turnovers, this one would have been a blowout, as Clemson moved the ball at will even without Gallman.

Watson is just clutch. He is money when it matters most.

LOVED Rg3's deep ball coming out of college
I would also say when attempting to critique Watson that his production is only part of the equation. This kid is just clutch and makes plays when needed most. He has pretty awesome stats obviously, but his ability to perform in clutch moments is a big part of his selling points. Remember, it took not one but two huge special teams plays in the national title game vs Bama's team to beat Clemson last year. He picked that freakish Bama defense apart. He hasn't been as sharp this year (neither have his receivers as reference in the chart I posted about drop ratios), but he still has the intangibles you want from a franchise QB.

Wow no credit to Mike Williams today, the kid was open quite a few times.

Mike set a record with 12 receptions today. He was huge apart from the one fumble that would have set up first and goal. Dude is a beast. Can't wait to see him at the next level.

Not to mention all the bad placed balls he caught by Watson today

Are you serious, man? Watson completed 39 of 52 passes. The Clemson coaches counted 6 drops during the game, including two by Mike. Both players still had great overall games today.

He was great for the most part. Wayne Gallman got knocked out of the game on the first drive, and the coaches said there were 6 drops after the game. He did throw a bad pick six where he appeared to not see the defender in the passing lane.

  • 39-52
  • 378 yards
  • 75% completion rate
  • 2 TD
  • 1 INT
  • 39 yards rushing
  • 1 TD
  • 1.449 QBR

It was a weird game because Clemson committed 4 turnovers in the redzone, including 2 on the half-yard line when trying to go in for the score. The offense marched up and down the field the whole game but left those scoring possessions on the field with the turnovers. The NCST kicker missed a gimme FG at the end of regulation, and Deshaun threw a couple of perfect strikes in OT, including a TD for what turned out to be the winning score after the Clemson defense intercepted NCST's first pass of their overtime possession.
