With Tunsil and Stanley dominating their position as the #1 and #2 OT's in the upcoming draft, I like to look at other possibilities. Now I'm not sure where Conklin is really projected to be, I've seen 1st to 2nd round but of course things will be much clearer when or after the NFL Combine. What I like about Conklin is that he's a O-lineman with a mean streak, he completely walls off defenders in the passing game (when he's not late off the snap) and he's a mauler in the run game. Scouts project him to be more of a Right Tackle in the NFL, and that's EXACTLY what the 49ers need on the O-line. Now I don't know how well he'd fit as a Zone Blocker, but who cares, I'm hoping this coaching staff isn't in SF much longer, he certainly can't be any worse than Pears. Jack Conklin 6'6" 320 pounds LT Michigan St. Here he is matched up vs. Shawn Oakman, I think he gets beat once or twice, but overall did a solid job vs. him. Here he is vs. a solid Ohio St. D-line, I thought he did a solid job in the running game. "After studying Michigan State, I'm surprised at how average (offensive tackle) Jack Conklin was athletically," the scout said. "I guess I just expected more based on his reputation. He's a good player, though. (He's a) better player than athlete, which isn't a bad thing." The so-so athleticism is why some believe Conklin is ticketed for RT in the pros. Make no mistake, though: This is a quality player. Conklin is a terrific run blocker who has allowed just two sacks over the past two seasons. From NFLDraftScout.com STRENGTHS: Conklin is well-built with excellent core strength, using his powerful upper body and center of gravity to be a mauler in the run game. He lines up with a firm anchor and rarely plays in reverse with quick eyes and smarts to pick up extra blockers. Very quick-minded and never takes a play off. WEAKNESSES: Will get his feet tied up in his outside kick-slide, which forces him to fall off balance. Lacks the quick-twitch body control to always pick up edge speed. IN OUR VIEW: Some scouts are head-over-heels excited about his potential while others are simply lukewarm on his NFL future, but regardless, Conklin displays the "steady-eddie" skill-set and intangibles that should lead to a long pro career.

Don't curr .25 inches short of 33 inches. literally that's his only knock. Explosive, has size and speed, already has a ton of pass rush moves, is a locker room leader, head is on straight, stud against the run as well as the pass etc

There's a reason they've brought him in and spoke to him a ton. Ideally I'd prefer a trade down, but if that can't happen I'd rather go pass rush than a RT. We are young on OL and I'm a Trent Brown homer

get some depth at OT with someone like Willie Beavers,Kyle Murphy,Fahn Cooper,Joe Haeg,Joe Dahl etc.

I could live with Lawson and Joshua Garnett with our first two picks... if we could trade with someone like the Titans (who want a OT) or the Phins (love Zeke) and still get Lawson that would be ideal too

I agree. I do think they brought him in just in case a guy they want at 7 is not available and they find a trade down partner. I don't think Baalke plans on taking him at 7 but, never know. Hell they might want to take him after a trade down but can't find a partner so end up being stuck at 7 and taking him anyways

Agree, believe Niners feel the same way about Conklin, wouldn't be surprised if he was the pick at #7, especially if Ravens take Buckner at #6.

if they do feel this way that haven't shown anything...Conklin was on the radio the other day talking about every team that he's spoke to in some sort of fashion and SF was not one of them.

Not saying he's not the pick but I would be very surprised if the was the pick at 7, personally I don't think they will draft a RT at 7. Baalke yesterday spoke about the youth on the OL and how they are finally getting their NFL strength.

I see Lawson or whichever defensive player drops being the pick, unless we trade down.

Who knows could all be a smokescreen (really getting tired of hearing that word) lol.

Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden, Walter Jones, Gene Upshaw and Art Shell all say you don't know what the fudge you are babbling about. Also the Cowboys starting left tackle is not a white guy.

Source indicated #Dolphins have a strong interest in Michigan State OT Jack Conklin as possible pick at No. 13. We shall see.
