Joey Bosa, our savior

What a prick Diva to the max glad we didn't take him i bet he'd be pulling the same s#it wit us.
I don't think you guys understand why he's holding out or you wouldn't be calling him a diva. The chargers don't want to give him is signing bonus right away like they should. Bosa is right to be holding out.

Exactly! People overreact to this stuff every time. The only guy I can remember even holding out through a good portion of the season in the last 15 years is Bryant McKinnie. And that was before the new CBA.

His threats have about as much bite to them as Von Miller's B.S. statement that there's no way he'd play this year under the franchise tag. It's all just posturing, and it'll run its course.

Jamarcus says hi

You're not arguing Jamarcus would've been good if he signed right away, are you?

That's not what I read - I believe it's to do with off setting language which the Chargers want but Bosa doesn't.

I suspect the Chargers identify that he's a guy who could have off field issues which could lead to him being cut ala Aldon Smith and don't want to be on the hook for that guarantee. I don't think it relates to his on field performance and they probably have a good amount of faith that he will get it done.

Bosa wants all the money now, now, now.
"Bosa's camp has repeatedly expressed a willingness to compromise and accept either the offset language or the signing bonus deferral, but the Chargers appear unwilling to budge."

Some of the comments are gold. After reading this article, it's pretty clear that the Chargers are entirely at fault and Bosa is just trying not to get strong armed into signing a contract that no top 3 picks have ever had to sign under the new CBA.

"The signing bonus issue is just the Chargers being penny wise and pound foolish. They have to pay him. They have the money. They just want to earn the interest on it (it can't be a salary cap issue because the signing bonus gets spread across the life of the contract anyway and they can't possibly need to push the cash payment into next year for minimum cash payment reasons). They are already a garbage organization. Why do they feel the need to give other players (their own and free agents) more incentive to sign with other teams by being so freaking cheap."

"I'm amazed at how willing people are to carry water for management in the NFLIt's unlike anything in North American sports. Hating the owner is seemingly mandatory in baseball, basketball, and hockey if their team is underperforming, but in football, they are infallible captains of industry. They can never fail, they can only be failed.

Pretty ridiculous to be on the Chargers' side here, as Spanos is such a bumbling idiot that he couldn't even leave his team's city properly. Getting Bosa was a coup for the Chargers, it's their job to finish the deal. They've had all offseason to do it…."

I was on the side of the Chargers but reading into it more his wants are reasonable and the Chargers are just being tight.
So happy we got Buckner over this tool.

This. Anyone who thinks Jed is cheap should talk to a chargers fan. They are lowballing Bosa with contract demands no other top 5 pick has had in their contract this cba. Chargers ownership is counting pennies and its driving their top pick to stay at home. I actually feel bad for Bosa as Im sure at this point he wishes he fell past SD.
Nice to know we aren't even the worst managed team in California.

Jadeveon Clowney the #1 pick in 2014 had offset language as well as a deferred bonus. Jameis Winston had a deferred bonus and offset language as the #1 pick last year.

The Chargers are f**king up but lets not pretend they are asking Bosa to agree to something that no other top pick has ever agreed to.

Joel Corry‏ @corryjoel
2015 1st overall pick James Winston signed a deal with offsets & signing bonus deferral. Last $6M of signing bonus was paid on 3/31/16.

2014 1st overall pick Jadeveon Clowney has offsets & signing bonus deferral. Last $3,629,636 of signing bonus was paid on 2/23/15.

Bosa to demand trade?
San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa is the only unsigned draft pick remaining from the 2016 draft, and the standoff between him and the team doesn't appear to be coming to an end anytime soon. The two sides reportedly haven't talked since July 28, and Bosa's mother, Cheryl, isn't happy about the situation. On Facebook, she responded to a post saying: "It bums me out for him so much. Wish we pulled an Eli Manning on draft day."

San Diego drafted Manning No. 1 overall in the 2004 draft, but Archie Manning said he didn't want his son to play for the Chargers. He ended up being traded to the New York Giants for No. 4 pick Philip Rivers, plus several other picks.

There's no guaranteed that Bosa will do the same, but there doesn't appear to be a resolution in sight - and Bosa's mother's post at least indicates they have thought about demanding a trade.

ICANHAZ Bosa AND Buckner plzzzzzzzzzzzz??????????

The biggest problem I'm seeing here is over involvement from the parents. Mom keeps using the term we. No, mommy, its sons contract.

I'm not sure what leverage Bosa has because the team has his rights.

Fair enough - it sounds like some top picks have had neither or one or the other. The vast majority have been given at least one of the two which is all Bosa is asking for. Still don't get why anyone would side with the Chargers on this - paying him the signing bonus up front has 0 salary cap implications and including no offset language is very unlikely to have any implications at all because the 3rd overall pick isn't likely to be cut during his cheap rookie deal.

One or the other. Not both... Keep fighting Bosa.. Other players should take notice and stop worrying about "me" all the time because you are affecting players that come after you. These owners are taking from the players and the players complain but don't stand up for themselves. Good for you Bosa.

So like I said before in another thread but has gotten deleted, It's getting to the point that the owners are protecting themselves so far that it is rediculous. They have the rookie contract, they hurt veterans and now they want the players for both? The owners or front office are slowly moving towards having no responsibility for drafts. Let's keep taxing the player because he picked himself.. Smart business move, win-win.. The players need to wake up... Tomlinson and Antonio Gates talk but they held out as well.. Hypocrites.. Stay out of your fellow Union partners pockets.. What a mess.

It's usually one side always take, take. These players need wake up. Not being smart all.. All their doing is giving...

Must be nice being a GM these days. That's the job to target. Job security just blame the player for everything. Brilliant

Yeah, except that just isn't true. As I posted, the #1 picks in the 2014 and 2015 drafts are examples of players that had both offset language and deferred bonuses.

I think we all can agree that the Chargers have handled this foolishly but what they are asking from Bosa isn't unprecedented.
