I hear you, but your best shot at a franchise guy, is going to be at the top of the first round. Given probability percentages. There is always a chance you miss though, so I get that.
And if you do whiff at the top of the 1st round, you're not blowing the chance at a decent or good starter, you're like blowing an opportunity on a Pro-Bowl caliber player, a true game changer.
Instead of the RG3 disaster, the Redskins could have wound up with Luke Kuechly. Instead of Jake Locker, the Titans could have had Tyrone Smith. Instead of Gabbert, the Jaguars could have had JJ Watt. There's an opportunity cost there. If a team is 100% sold on a particular QB, so be it but I hope that one doesn't get drafted just out of a perceived need.
Basically, this is how I look at it. Is a QB the best player on your board, if so proceed......or are you drafting the best QB on your board because you see it as a need?
Also say Goff doesn't declare and stays for his senior year as some others QB's have done. Do you then reach for Cook or Hackenberg, neither of whom impress me much honestly.
