2016 49ers Draft Needs - What Will Be Our #1 Need?

Whatever position Baalke thinks we will need in 2018
the most dominant offensive tackle on the board ....we can throw him at RT and let him play there until Staley retires, not a bad plan, Staley played RT at the beginning of his career ...then grab the best guard on the board in the 3rd

but if an elite pass rushing OLB is available in the 1st , jump on it ....
i would say 1st and foremost a blue chip OL (preferably T) and/or a blue chip WR. Whichever is the BPA whenever they pick. I would put an OLB pass rusher a hair below these 2.

This is what will happen, not what we want! LOL!

Baalke will continue to find starters on the roster or in FAcy, while using the draft for special players or depth.
Rd. 1 ILB/OT (need a play maker ILB and a true RT to replace Staley down the road if Boone leaves.
Rd. 2 WR or one of the above (Boldin will retire soon and we don't know if any of our current group will rise--T Smith only other true NFL WR)
Rd. 3 OG or WR (depth for OL is always a need, WR see above)

The team will need to replace some of our FAs
Vernon Davis--depending on how reasonable he will be, resign
Phil Dawson--same, resign or find another vet kicker
Alex Boone--he wants OT money and it looks like the niners don't see him in that light (highest PFF rating for OG in week 1)
Shareece Wright--goodbye
Reggie Bush--if he isn't healthy all year, goodbye
Ian Williams--sign if able
Desmond Bishop--?, not sure why he is listed
Garrett Celek--resign if possible, especially if VD leaves
Michael Wilhoite--resign
Tony Jerod-Eddie--replace
Jordan Devey--depends on his year...can he back up a better RG?

Another consideration is which positions can be found down the draft (OG, WR, RB) and which can't (OT, OLB)?
2016 draft is potentially cursed. Every 4th draft since 2004 has sucked. 2004, 2008, and 2012 were all epic fails. Just hope the trend does not continue.

Cook is the guy for whom I hope. I fully expect them to keep going with Kaepernick (unfortunately), but I hope I'm wrong.

Not a fan of Jones.

Getting pretty confident in my initial analysis of Cardale right now. Benched after 2 picks today.

election years
after wk1:

RT - but I think AD actually comes back
LG - if Boone leaves
OLB - Lynch will be solid, I'd like to see Eli Harold take over Brooks spot... depth will be needed regardless

almost postive Ian Williams and Wilhoite will be re-signed

I forgot about Brandon Thomas, I still think he could be a great LG

but if Boone keeps playing the way played in wk1, and we still have 16+ mil in cap space, he's a must re-sign

2 Weeks In: OL, PASS RUSH, WR... Some would say CB after this week but to me our CB's are fine it's the lack of pass rush. Brooks should be gone, Boone and Davis could be gone and then we would have a ton of money to sign a big name FA of our choosing if we wish and to start bringing in younger cheaper talent in the draft.
We need a guy who can get to the quarterback on his own on consistent basis for sure. Hell a couple of them wouldnt hurt!
need a pass rusher to replace brooks
Is there a reason there's no QB option in the poll? At least give me Other as a option lol

Exactly. Please put in QB into the options, that would be my top priority if I could vote.

1. OT - Pears is a stop-gap at best and a sieve at worst. Brown is far too raw to project. Thomas was an excellent tackle in college, but he couldn't beat out Devey at OG, so who knows. Perhaps he needs more time to recover from the ACL tear.

2. OLB - Lynch appears to have a bright future. Harold has potential. Brooks is most likely gone after this year. Lemonier.... can't even get on the active roster. This is the biggest weakness on the defense.

3. RB - Hyde looks like the stud we hoped he'd be, but after him it gets dicey. Bush probably doesn't return and Hayne might never be more than a return guy. Davis looks solid, but for a power running team, this position gets thin awfully quick.

4. ILB - Bowman is the leader of this defense moving forward, but he needs a protege. Wilhoite is a decent place filler and Skov has shown well, but I think we need the next generation sooner rather than later.

5. OG - After all of the retirements, FA losses, and surprise cuts (Aldon ), I feel much more secure in saying that we will resign Alex Boone. Conceivably, Boone could take over at RT and then OG would be our biggest need. If he stays at LG, we need to solve the RG problem. Devey, Kilgore, Martin, and Thomas will still be here to fight it out, so this is a need if the right player is there.

6.QB - Despite what you may or may not believe about Kaep, the truth is, we need to start molding a young QB. Gabbert looked good in the preseason, but he will be gone as soon as a team is willing to let him compete for a starting job. If nothing else, we need a young, capable back-up.

7. WR - Many consider this to big a top need, but I just don't know. Yes, Boldin doesn't figure to be around much after this year, but Torrey Smith just signed a long term deal, Ellington, Patton, and White are getting a chance to shine now, and we will have Dres Anderson and DeAndre Smelter coming into next year.
