Replacing Aldon in the Draft

Too early to eval no?

We picked up some cap space so we can look for WR TE, and/or OLB or DE in free agency and the others find in the draft

Unless Denver an manning part ways they don't have a ton of cap space....either way baalke won't be bringing in top pass rushers he's been pretty good at drafting them

Baalke is a bit unpredictable at times. They lost three probowl caliber front seven guys this year so they may just use some of that cap space to bring in a sure thing rather than a developmental guy in the draft...especially as Borland retired leaving them short of a high level replacement player. They brought in J Smith and T Smith so they're not averse to top FAs if they can entice them, but the DL seems strong enough and a top OLB would help as much as a top DT.

I'd love to draft the dude from Baylor that rocks crop tops, Shawn Oakman. Don't know if he'd be able to play OLB, but he's a beast.

i suppose...but other than Aldon and Lynch, i have not seen too many top flight pass rushers drafted (jury is still out on a few guys like Tank, Harold etc). I really think it is imperative to get a top flight pass rusher..either via draft or FA. To me, what really took this defense from being good to being truly elite was the addition of a top notch pass rusher. Yes, i know there were other things (i.e. Bowman inserted in to starting lineup, etc), but to me Aldon was the x factor that really allowed this D to take the next step to one of, if not the best, in the league. By going the FA route, you know you are getting a top 3 pass rusher in the league and are sufficiently replacing a top level talent in Aldon.

Von Miller has had almost as many of-field problems as Aldon.

Tamba Hali isn't dominant enough to justify the ungodly kind of money he'd get. Aldon would've been; Von Miller would be (assuming he doesn't get arrested again), but Hali isn't at that level IMO.

Plus Von will probably get the tag if he doesn't re-sign. Guys like that rarely change teams (Julio Jones won't either).

The guy who should've been the solution to the Aldon leaving is Shane Ray IMO.

True but they are the top two OLBs who will be free agents next off season. Shane Ray had a very dubious character history so I'm not sure why you suggest him after poo-pooing Von Miller.

My hope is that Lynch and Harold will develop enough this year to make this a less urgent need but if they don't a veteran FA is a better solution than a rookie.
