Round two draft strategy

A RB in the 2-3 round would be a waste of a pick.
If we skip WR in round 2 and go ILB, CB, etc I'd be all for Funchess, Coates or Lockett in the 3rd.

If we go WR in the 2nd then I say in the 3rd BPA at ILB or possibly CB/RB.
Any draft prospects recovering from season ending injuries?

Trent loves to get top prospects coming off injuries.

Well no guarantee's Hunter is back to his old self and he's been injured more than he's been healthy. Bush won't be around likely more than a year or 2. Hyde's no lock to be a top #1 RB in the league. He looked promising but he's not proven. So yeah I can see how many feel that way but I could understand us taking a RB in the 2nd or 3rd. It's been so long since we haven't had Gore to count on you can't just expect Hyde to be Gore and not have to worry about RB again.

Or contemplating retirement soon?
There will be probably plenty of good RB´s in the 4-5 Round.

- Javorius Allen
- David Cobb
- Mike Davis
- Cameron Artis-Payne

....

RB is not a major need in the early rounds.

Really hoping for Maxx Williams, DGB, Devin Smith, or Eric Rowe. Although ill most likely be disappointed.
FS - Landon Collins would really be a great pick in round 2..

He'd be more of a nickel LB-type in our defense so I'm not sure he's worthy of a 2nd round pick for our scheme.

We definitely need a backup s depending on if ward's future is at CB or at S. That would allow us to move on from Dahl and/or McCray potentially. Would be nice value but I'm not sure we should go backup S (even if potential future starter) in round 2. 3-4 yes, but 2's hard to justify especially if Ward is considered the future FS or SS. I think Reid will be around a long time (assuming he stops getting concussions) and Bethea can go 1-2 more years. Either way doubt he makes it to us anyways. Would kind of be a luxury pick but others might call it a move for the potential future. Same with Maxx Williams. Would have to assume if they take him Davis is not going to be re-signed or McDonald won't be back. Carrier just got extended but isn't making much so I guess it's no lock that he's the future #2/3.
I'm in favor of drafting both Coates (2nd) and Funchess (3rd), with Funchess playing a hybrid WR/TE role.

I know people probably think the 2nd is early for Coates, but if he's the guy they want then they should pull the trigger on it. To me, he has the physicality catching in traffic that Kap seems to really value. I think a year working with Boldin and he could develop into a Boldin clone.

Then with one of our 4th rounders I'd take whichever RB slips through the cracks. Seems like one of them definitely will. And if none do I look to draft Josh Robinson later on.

Oh yeah, and if we don't get Funchess, I'd look for Jesse James (TE) sometime after the 4th. He seems like he could develop into a real red zone threat.

My take on acquiring more weapons....
I have a feeling we will trade up a bit with the picks we gathered day one. Maybe a play for an offensive weapon?

I wanted M. Peters in the first round because I felt he was the most solid CB in the draft. There was one WR that gave him a tough fight and even beat Peters more times than not, and that is J. Strong. So Stong would be my first pick.
1. J. Stong
2. DGB
3. R. Darby
4. D. Smith
5. E Rowe
6. P.J. WIlliams
Think we should take a long look at Jake Fisher if he's there at our 2nd rounder. Would provide tremendous insurance and a legitimate swing tackle. Think we still are gunning for a WR, but that would be a heck of a value.
