Gotta get him before the inevitable run on punters
There's a very fine line between clever and stupid!

Another pespective. Nice to have the luxury to pick the player you want a little earlier than take the chance that they drop to you and be left out in the called when they are gone.
Still like the flow and and drafting philosophy and addressing future needs before they become gaping holes.

I don't see where most places even have him as anything other than one of the lowest rated punters if rated at all.

All of this was what looked like it was a kicking academy, but interesting just the same.

Well, with the way our offense usually makes most of our points with field goals. This pick sounds about right. *slap hands, slap hands

Are you really serious. Put down the KoolAid
Yes even kickers and punters need to be drafted. Who'd of thunk it right? All I know is his avg was better than Lees last year. Don't be a homer, all three phases bro!

Lee average 46.8 yards last year, 46.2 for career

You know, I'm starting to think that the 49ers draft strategy is to stay away from flashy star player picks that experts agree on. Not saying they are wrong but geez jaquisti tart? Sounds like a Dairy Queen treat, and a Pinter in round 5? Very strange since a fly lee is one of the best and 32 or 33...does not calculate.

With punters and kickers, you either go undrafted, or if you really want a guy, you draft them in the 7th. If you LOVE a guy you draft them in the 6th, maybe....
Just can't support taking a punter in the 5th. The 5th is the PRIME round to scoop up mid round guys that dropped, or jump out in front on late round guys you really like.
So far, this draft has been a roller coaster. I was pissed yesterday that they passed on all the WRs and RBs we needed, but then they pulled off that 4th round and got great looking players. So who knows... maybe we'll still get an intriguing ILB prospect, line depth, or a KR/PR in the 6th and 7th.
All that said, I would have kept our original pick in the round and drafted JJ Nelson.
