OTC's Best Board Top 50 With 49ers BPA, April 28

By most accounts, this year figures to be one of the most entertaining drafts in quite some time. As always, I much look forward to seeing who will earn this year's unofficial bragging rights as "Draft King." I don't believe I've ever unveiled my top 50 board before, but I promised to do so this year, so this is a first. So here you go, as promised, the BPA overall board. For comparisons sake, like MD I've included a "Niners BPA Projection" for who I'd expect to be the BPA on my personal board from round 1-3. Leonard Williams is an incredible talent, but still just a hair behind. Beasley has given plenty of folks flashbacks of Von Miller, and I tend to agree with that comparison. I should note though, I think Beasley converts his speed to power much more so than Miller did at the time he was drafted. DL Prospects: Still feel that Carl Davis is a Top 10-15 talent. Would love it if we snagged him. As noted in other discussions, he was unstoppable one on one, and had to be routinely double-teamed or even triple-teamed in some instances. I feel that Xavier Cooper is a very underrated talent. Explodes off the ball and was another player very difficult to handle one on one. OL Prospects: Erving could start right away at any positon, easily earning himself the top grade among OL for me. Best fit would be C. Most overrated OT I found to be Andrus Peat. Too vulnerable to the bull rush for a supposed top 20 pick. Most underrated is Jake Fisher. Just fantastic feet, smarts, and ability to play with leverage. I think he is the most pro ready pure OT in this class and give him the top grade among OTs. Pass Rusher Class: I think Preston Smith is a darkhorse 49ers candidate in the 2nd if he's there. Like Aldon Smith, he has experience playing DE, DT, as well as some time dropping into coverage. He'd need a year to adjust to OLB, but I think our staff would be willing to bet they can teach him. He has the athleticism to make the transition. Still love Shane Ray's ability, but his "what the F?" incident dropped him to a late 1st for me. As stupid as this was, I'd still consider taking him if I were picking 25-32 based on the talent there. Eli Harold was too often the last guy off the snap for me and was often neutralized easily by most tackles, especially the top ones in this class that he faced. If the 49ers followed my board, these would be the likely first three picks: 1) Cameron Erving-OL-Florida State Explanation: gives the team an immediate starter on the interior and/or insurance against Alex Boone since he may not return in 2016. 2) Tyler Lockett-WR-Kansas State or Xavier Cooper-DE-Washington State Explanation: The team is still very interested in adding both speed and return ability. Lockett boasts both. Cooper is a versatile 3-4 DE with experience in the scheme. Played especially well against teams with strong OL prospects. 3) Trey Flowers-OLB-Arkansas Explanation: Very strong kid who caused havoc against some of the top OTs in this class. May lack the height, but has the size.

Would love to come away with an impact defender and developmental WR in the 1st 3 rounds. Your scenario is outstanding as well. Really enjoy your commentary, OTC.

I think he'll be an interception machine in the NFL. Character concerns also an issue. 2nd round grade, just outside the Top 50. Mariota comes without the character/maturity questions and boasts the same kind of escapability, but has superior athleticism and takes care of the ball much, much better.

Always much appreciate the kind comments. I think if the team can maneuver to get themselves four picks in the first three rounds, that would be tremendously beneficial for us. There is a lot of talent to tap into at OL, WR, OLB, and DL early on in the draft, and I sincerely hope we find a way to acquire as much of it as we can. Getting 3 out of those 4 positions, if we stay put, would still be great though.

Based on my board, I'd personally look at the following targets in rounds 1-3:

Rnd 1) DL Carl Davis, OL Collins, WR Perriman, WR Parker, or CB Waynes
Rnd 2) WR Lockett, DL Cooper, DE/OLB Preston Smith
Rnd 3) OL Marpet, DE/OLB Flowers, DL Anderson

I have them neck and neck, but I give Perriman the edge due to explosiveness and the upside (Similar to how MD did with Kevin White vs. Amari Cooper).

In game review, Perriman sometimes was absolutely uncoverable and while there were some drops, his lower catch totals had a lot more to do with a horrendous QB missing him entirely with the pass or never seeing him wide open to begin with. Along with those NFL bloodlines, after further review of Perriman, he flew up the board for me. I think he can develop his unrefined areas. Parker is also a very good all around receiver, and I would be just as happy to have him.

DGB falls outside the top 50 due to character lowering him down. MD pulled him off the board completely. I'm a tad more lenient.
