Explosive plays are necessarily needed, but the threat of an explosive play is. Baalke addressed this by bringing in the best deep threat to hit the free agency market is a few years in Torrey Smith.
The offense has been the albatross of the team for over a decade now. Offensive line is important but as the OP articulated, Baalke has been addressing this with the addition of Martin and Thomas.
OP certainly has valid points. All of Baalke's early round investments in the offense has failed miserably, taking the likes of AJJ and LMJ. Hyde has showed flashes, but taking another back isn't flawed logic, especially since Hunter is coming back from injury and both he and Bush are on 1 year contracts. Boldin's on his last year as well, so an investment in another young WR seems smart to me. Definitely worth a conversation at least, and not to just be dismissed.
Taking another back THAT HIGH with other needs may well be flawed logic. I imagine Baalke may but only if the value is inescapable. Regarding the investment in a receiver, certainly as I think I said in my original. But the OP has us taking one with the 3rd and also trading up from #15 to #11,which is likely to cost. So I do dismiss the idea.

We've had a powerhouse D as you call it for the last 4-5 years, played conservative and won no rings. That's because we cannot score points. Even with all the injuries do D last year we still were ranked#2 overall on defense and still did not make the playoffs
Yes, it all starts with the offensive line but we took 2 offensive lineman last year in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That highest value crap netted us Jimmy Ward....and we missed playmakers that are performing at high levels Devonta Adams, Moncrief, Jordan Matthews, and the boy from Pittsburgh but yeah we got Ellington!!
You do realize that if Ellington went to Green Bay or Pittsburgh, you'd probably be upset about the 49ers not drafting him and taking a bust like Moncrief or Matthews instead...right.
Talent is only one part of the equation, actually coaching that talent up and being able to utilize it properly is a must. Over the past few years this team hasn't shown that they had a clue on how to coach up or use receivers properly on offense.

This! I would love for Scherff to fall to us. Plug him in Iupatis spot then next year when Boone walks plug in Brandon Thomas. Then you got Staley Scherff Martin Thomas Davis. Three first rd picks for one of the best OL if not the best in the NFL for years to come

Good things happen with our team when we run the ball. Look at the 3 nfc championship years. Our formula was running the rock.
Last season we got too cute and changed up our philosophy! (Harbaugh caved and opened up the offense to more passing) Look at what happened to our offense for the first half of the season when we would throw a lot. Lost to the bears because we relied on Kap to keep throwing in that game. There was too much passing last year, and that was why we finished 8-8.
Look I get it, during our glory years, passing got us the championships. It's a different time now fellas, we got to go back to running. I rather run the ball and get td's to our te's and wr during play action (which worked great during our NFC championship runs).
We should focus on getting help for our defense. I would be very happy if we drafted db, db, lb, wr, and bpa from there on out.

Let's just bite the bullet and do this...if the picks fall right for us. Two stud OL and we're getting back on track for the future.

Yeah, if the niners really felt Cooper was their man and had the means to go get him I am cool with that, but the RB and 3rd round idea doesn't add up.

Some of you people amaze me....this is a Qb driven league. In order to be successful you need play makers surrounding our young Qb to relieve the pressure off his shoulders. We don't pick this high very often...,we need to take advantage and take superstars that score touchdowns ...skilled positions Wr's & Rb's rather that be Cooper, Parker, Gurley, DGB or Gordon. Counting on a 35 year old Boldin, which is the ONLY proven consistent play maker on this offense is short-sided and down right naive!!
It's a given you cannot fill all needs with one draft, however, this draft is loaded with some difference makers at the skilled position that should make an early impact and play at a high level for a long time.
