comp picks..

so with the loss of Justin Smith, Patrick Wills, Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree and Mike Iupati, what do you guys think we will receive as comp picks for next offseason? Crabtree, Iupati and Willis are all first rounders.. thats at least 3, 3rd rounds.. didn't we get a 3rd rounder for Goldson?
worth it

- Baalke
I got 2 5ths so far with Skuta and Gore
We will get nothing for Smith since he is retiring.

Skuta/Gore should give us two 5ths.

Iupati probably cancels with Smith.

If Culliver goes elsewhere, we will get a 3rd.

Crabtree may net us a 6th since no one seems interested in him.

All in all, we will have A LOT of compensation picks next year. Baalke should do his magic like always.
Too early to tell, especially now that we have 25-30m to spend. We get nothing if Justin and Willis retire. Skuta signed a 5yr/20.5m contract which will probably net us a 5th or so. Iupati was seeking a deal in the 8m/yr range which would net us a 3rd. Gore is over 30 which factors into the formula. Will probably get a 6th for him. Culliver is rumored to have a good market. Hearing around 7m/yr which is around a 3rd. Torrey might cancel that out tho.

So far:
Iupati 3rd
Skuta 5th
Gore 6th
With Torrey, if signed, taking away a 3rd or 4th if we have one

Where the player is initially drafted is irrelevant in the formula. Yearly salary, age and playing time next year are the biggest factors

The round the player was drafted in has nothing to do with how comp picks are awarded. Also, the 49ers are getting nothing for Willis and Smith since both are retiring and not going to other teams.

The largest factor has to do with average contract salary. Depending on who else the 49ers may sign, I'm guessing that they are looking at a 4th rounder, a 6th rounder and possibly a 7th rounder for the players that have left. Depending on what Crabtree's contract ends up being, that could be for anywhere from a 5th to 7th rounder likely.

If the 49ers do sign some more free agents that were not released by their previous teams, then that will further cut into any sort of compensation that the 49ers will get.

Iupati and Smith cancel out.

Culliver will net a 3rd.
Skuta will net a 5th and possibly a 4th.
Gore will get us a 6th.

Depending on the deals for Crabtree and Cox I can see any combo of 4ths and 5ths coming.

Thats 5 extra picks as it stands. And I really dont think the team will make many more additions. I tend to believe the extra money will be spent on an extension for Alex Boone.

I think you can only have 4 comp picks.
The Rams just resigned Kenny Britt for a 2 year 14 million deal. I'm pretty sure it's incentive. Looks more like 4.5-4.8 million a year with another 4-5 million he can earn. Crabtree is only a year older. If Britt gets this kind of deal, I would have to assume Crabtree gets 6 to 8 million a year. We can only hope the free agent class starts to get very thin.

Iupati and Smith cancel
Culliver will get us a 3rd
Skuta a 5th
Gore a 6th, possibly a 7th
Crabtree a 4th...but I'm hoping for a 3rd
Cox a 5th...but I'm hoping someone opens the check book and it nets us a 4th

You can only have 4 compensatory draft picks. If Gore happens to be the worst comp pick would they drop that pick?

I think the 49ers are pretty much finished in free agency, other than maybe a few bargain deals to fill out depth once the initial waves of free agency subside. I don't see them handing out any significant contracts unless someone gets released, which would not cost us compensation. Having upwards of 11 picks in the 2016 draft will be great for us. Hopefully Baalke will stay the course on his draft day deals and net us a few more picks by trading down in certain spots.

Baalke isn't going to get all happy with the extra cash and splurge... I was wondering if he's just waiting for the right time and certain player to be released so we don't lose any comps

Culliver should net us a 4th according to OverTheCap.com. The $8M APY isn't high enough for a 3rd apparently.

Skuta and Gore are right now 6th's.

Iupati and Smith do cancel out

Smith retiring won't net us a pick, nor will losing Willis to retirement, just the way it is, those are the rules, no way around them, they've been like that ever since comp picks started being given out.
Looks like with Cincinnati releasing Josh Johnson, we have gone from a 4th, 5th, and 6th to just a 4th and 5th according to OverTheCap.com
Update, looks like we should get that 6th since the OTC guys don't see Bellore counting unless he has to play a lot of defensive snaps.
