PICK NO.15, ARIK ARMSTEAD, DT, OREGON
Justin Smith is in the late stages of his career and the 49ers need to groom a replacement at the position.

Lance Zierlein and Chad Reuter, NFL.com. April 24

15. San Francisco 49ers: Arik Armstead, DL, Oregon
We know the 49ers need inside linebacker help, but this isn't the spot for that pick. Armstead is the future replacement for Justin Smith.

LOL! Agree...potential bust? Let's give me to the idiot niners. I would be so shocked if Baalke reaches here...and Tomsula has publicly ID'D DL as a strength. NT maybe...
Sam Farmer, LA Times, April 24

No. 15: San Francisco 49ers, Trae Waynes | Cornerback | Michigan State
Waynes is an excellent press corner who would be projected to start right away. He might not be the all-around athlete that Marcus Peters is, but he doesn't have the off-the-field baggage, either. - Matt Barrows, Sacramento Bee

Ben Standig, CSN Washington, April 24

15. 49ers: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon - Only thing extreme about this pick is that it's what I've had for SF in my last six mocks. Two defensive line studs are gone. The new head coach coached the DL last season. This is the pick and nobody can change my mind.

Brad Biggs, Chicago Tribune, April 25

15. 49ers: Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon
GM Trent Baalke has shown a preference for defensive players with great length, and there might not be a player in the draft with more of it than the 6-foot-7, 292-pound Armstead.

agreed
Matthew Glenesk,Indy Star, April 26

15. San Francisco – CB Marcus Peters, Washington
With Tramaine Brock and Shareece Wright atop the depth chart at cornerback, reloading the secondary takes priority even after the unexpected retirements of linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland.

Barry Wilner, Yahoo, April 26

15. San Francisco 49ers (8-8) ARIK ARMSTEAD, DT, OREGON
At some point, the Niners will take a linebacker (or two) and a wideout (or two). For now, they can help themselves on the defensive line, which could use some bulking up.

Rob Rang, CBS, April 26

15. San Francisco 49ers - Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut:
Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retiring has shifted the attention in San Francisco to inside linebacker but replacing starting cornerback Chris Culliver is also a concern. GM Trent Baalke has been known to gamble on traits before and few athletes check off more boxes than Jones, a four-year starter with experience at corner and safety who is known for his work ethic and demonstrated remarkable athleticism in workouts.

Josh Norris, RotoWorld, April 25

15. San Francisco 49ers - CB Byron Jones, UConn
Byron Jones could be the first corner off the board. Teams will love his size, athleticism and that his medicals checked out. Also, his experience at safety is a plus. Jimmie Ward should man the slot.

If we can grab Waynes at #15 then we race to the podium for the selection. But the other guys? Peters, Jones, Armstead at #15? Simply NO! I don't see the value here. Baalke would make a move back to mid 20's and still have a shot at Peters, Jones, Armstead, DGB, Brown, Goldman etc.
