NYniner85 pre-combine mock

I've seen a ton of good mocks out there ( I used Cbssports and NFL.con to figure out draft profiles and projected spots)

I'm drafting more based on position then BPA and this probably won't be anything close to what happens lol.

1st: I like WR here and if Kevin White is there we should snag him! He will be the #1 WR of the future.

6-3 210 WR

Very good foot quickness to beat press and get vertical in a hurry with his downfield acceleration. Displays above average coordination and footwork in his breaks to create separation at the top of his routes and catch the ball without breaking stride to create after the reception.
Quick feet and good vision to plan after the catch, displaying his ability to create and be more than a chain-mover. Uses his size to overpower defenders on occasion, breaking tackles to gain yardage after the catch. (cbsssports) compares to DeAndre Hopkins

2nd: Jordan Phillips NT: Dude is a monster with long arms and is very athletic for his size, here is your beef up front.

6-6 334 NT

Massive frame with long arms. Athletic lower body for a man his size. Read-and-react two-gap nose with ability to eat space and free linebackers. Uses length effectively and was able to split double teams as season wore on. Swim move for quick wins and trips into backfield when Sooners let him penetrate. Athletic with nimble feet and pursuit speed of a man much lighter. Should be able to carry additional muscle and girth. (NFL.com) compares to Dontari Poe/Terrance Knighton

has the body to be a NT in a 3-4 his only knock is sometimes he disappears and needs more pass rush (we have the coach to teach that )

3rd: Phillip Dorsett WR, Here is your speed! He improved his stock at the SB Bowl so he might be gone here.

5-10 183 WR

Possesses true "see-ya" speed with easy acceleration to turn on the jets and erase pursuit angles from defenders and he should be a prime candidate for the fastest 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. Explosive playmaker with his natural speed and ability to create after the catch (Cbssports)

He could also be a true return man for us...his knock is his size but look around tons of small WRs are lighting it up! compares to: John Brown, Antonio Brown

4th: Henry Anderson DL: Let's grab more D-line help, he would be the cowboys replacement and has really come along during SB practices.

6-6 287 DE

"I think in two years, he's going to go from 287 to 310 pounds, and at 6-6, 310, he'll be the ideal 5-technique in a 3-4 defense, and I also think when teams get into sub packages he can use that length and quickness to his advantage and you can kick him down inside." Mayock wasn't the only analyst impressed by Anderson's work at the Senior Bowl. ESPN's Todd McShay wrote that Anderson "just wouldn't stay blocked" in practices. McShay believes Anderson could be a Day 3 pick and thinks the Stanford prospect "will outplay his draft slot." (rotoworld)

4th (comp) David Cobb-RB We are looking at more power running so let's roll in another power runner.

5-11 229 RB

Powerful, compact runner with a low center of gravity. Efficient and decisive. Makes defenders miss with slight movement and hand usage. Won't succumb to arm tackles. Gained 54 percent of his yardage after contact from 2013-2014. Patient runner who gets the most from his runs. Has good speed in open field for a back his size. Balance is his friend. Smooth change-of-direction with little wasted motion. Gets low and finishes with leg drive. When he smells the end zone, he wants to eat. (NFL.com) compares to Steven Ridley

He is another riser in the draft because of a good SB, but this position is deep and he should be around.

5th: Ladarius Gunter CB: I don't think we need to spend a early pick on CB based on resigning players and past drafts (Baalke is good at finding value for this position)

6-2 198 CB

He has all the measurable you want for the position and could take over as gunner.

Very good height/weight with an ability to redirect from press coverage. Active, strong hands. Rips at the ball and wide receiver's arms during attempted catch. Aggressive in the red zone. Will sit on routes and look to make plays on the ball. Flashed at Senior Bowl practices with a nose for the ball. Wrap-up tackler who is patient in run support and works to position of leverage and containment. Excels in off coverage and has played outside, as single-high safety and over tight ends. Plays on kick-coverage team. (NFL.com) compares to Josh Norman.

6th: Austin Shepherd OT: looks like a good backup swing tackle...see ya later Martin

6-5 320 OT

Big, tough guy who accepts the challenge willingly. Good lateral mover with ability to mirror in pass protection and redirect to get hands on moving target. Very measured, accurate initial strike when asked to climb to second level. Instinctive and plays with good timing. Takes good angles in running game. (NFL.com) compares to Bradley Sowell

7th: Blake Bell TE: Just taking a flyer here he is raw but has the size and hands you'd like for a red zone target at least (Former QB)

6-6 259 TE

A newly converted tight end who was a short-yardage specialist and red-zone brute for the Sooners as a quarterback. Bell was looked over by scouting community during the regular season, but he has flashed sure hands and shown improvement as a blocker and could have an NFL future if a team is willing to be patient with him.(NFL.com) compares to Joel Dreessen

7th: Grab a backup safety to compete for ST or a kicker.

Well there it is....I wouldn't say I'm anywhere close to as knowledgeable as a lot of zoners when it comes to the draft. I'm sure some of these players might be projected higher or lower then I have them drafted, but it's pretty early to tell.

I didn't add anything as far as FA in this mock....let me know your thoughts

I'm a fan! I read on ESPN that Phillips is rated in the top 32 prospects so I could see him going earlier, but if he lasted to the 2nd that would be awesome. I like all the players in this scenario.
i also have Dorsett, Gunter, and Anderson in my (yet to be posted) mock

Yeah he is one of the "hopefuls" that would be there in the 2nd... according to CBS sports he is a 1st or 2nd rd prospect.

I've noticed the tendency to project NT's to beef up our DL. We already have 3 guys who can play NT...Dorsey, Williams and Dial. Where we have a distinct lack of experience and depth is at DE...somebody has to step up and replace Ray Mac. Neither Carradine nor Jerrod-Edie have shown they can be reliable starters yet. We don't know whether Justin Smith will play in 2015 or not...but even if he does, this is the draft to get his replacement. Some have advocated Dorsey playing DE...the Chiefs made that mistake and there's no reason the Niners should repeat it. He simply plays better inside. My answer: draft Eddie Goldman, FSU in rd 1. There'll still be very good WR's available in rd 2. My pick there would be Devin Smith.

I really like most of your picks...I just think Baalke has to address the DL before he takes a WR. I see the Anderson pick in the 4th...not a bad place to take him. But, looking at him to replace Justin Smith is a reach, IMHO. Taking a 2nd DE may depend on whether TB decides to re-sign TJE. Another guy to consider who could supplant our DL is Malcolm Brown. He's been one of the most consistent DL in college the past few years. He has the size and quickness to put heat on the QB and stuff the run, like Goldman has. I think it's more critical to beef up the DE position with guys who can play effectively inside and out (for rotation and hybrid formations), which is what Goldman and/or Brown would provide.

Sheppard's a steamroller in the run game, but not as effective pass-blocking. Still, he's arguably a better player than J. Martin.

He was my other possible pick (Goldman vs White) and Phillips might not be available when SF is picking in the 2nd. I think Henderson would be able to step in as a 5 technique in our 3-4...I personally think J Smith will finish out his contract vs retiring and I think Tank can take over for McDonald ( I didn't see much drop in production when he was cut). Tomsula has shown he can develop the d-line not so sure about WR.

I'd be fine with Goldman in the 1st and Smith in the second....but I'd prefer White, Philips then Dorsett. Throw in the fact that Dorsey and Williams are injury prone
Favorite mock so far, I really like the fact you didn't go Shelton in the 1st or DGB (even though I'm assuming you looked into trading back for him, which I'm thinking about for my next mock)

I also have Gunter, but with his recent performance at senior day I don't think he will last until the 5th
But you like said, Baalke won't spend a high draft pick on a CB (I agree) so we can find someone else

Nice work

It's b/c Dorsey is a DE and only played NT due to injury. He stunk playing NT for a few seasons in KC and was much better at DE. Dial can play their but isn't effective. He's more of a DE.If Cowboy retires i would think the starting DE's would Dorsey with either Dial or Tank. That only leaves Williams who is coming off 2 years of injuries. That's why a lot of folks want a guy like Shelton in the 1st round b/c he can play all across the the d line. But if they got a DE over a NT I wouldn't mind that. I think Brown would be a good fit.

HA you know I wanted to throw DGB in there but realistically I don't see it happening (unless we have some trades). I don't hate Shelton but grabbing a WR like White would make more sense and I don't even know if Shelton will be there at 15.

Considering Josh Gordon's upcoming suspension, I see the Browns at #12 taking Kevin White, Parker could be off the board as well by #15.
I would trade down 8-10 spots in the 1st take Armstead DE from Oregon and pick up an extra 3rd round pick.
In the 2nd round, look for WR, possibly Jaelen Strong if he slides to the 2nd, or Devin Smith, Lockett or Dorsett.
In the 3rd round with 2 picks, I'd go CB (Gunter, Miami, Collins, LSU or Rollins, Miami OH) and OL (Ogbuhei, Texas A&M, Tomlinson, Duke or Fisher, Oregon).
I like Cobb RB pick in he 4th (also Johnson, Northern Iowa, Robinson, Miss St. or Artis-Payne, Auburn).
I like Anderson DL pick with the other 4th round pick as well.

No trades is this mock (I will be doing one with trade scenarios down the road) and you would get more than a 3rd rd pick if you moved down 8 to 10 spots in the 1st.

Strong is intriguing (if White is gone plus a trade down) but I want some speed in there with Dorsett in the 3rd.

Rollins will be gone in the 3rd same with Collins...honestly I don't see O-line as a huge problem I think the issue was play calling and injuries. We have M Martin, Looney, and Thomas ready to take Iupati's spot.
That is a great mock. I'd be down for that.
