McShay's 1st Mock 12/17/14

You just drafted Sammie Coates in your mock who needs to work the jug machine 24/7 ASAP. (For the record Im a fan of Coates)

Different players, Coates is a chuck and duck guy used to stretch the field vertically, I wouldn't draft him anywhere that early though.

I know what type of player Coates is. That doesnt explain his comment.

Yeah not sure where he had White or Parker going in his 1st mock...I'd prefer White to Parker. Fuchess would be interesting in the 2nd or 3rd I don't see him as a 1st rd pick.

Who knows where SF will go now with McDonald gone and Justin Smith possibly retiring after the season.
I think this is good possibility but I think the drops from a speed TE would worry any niner fan.

He is a solid TE, but he doesn't have much of a ceiling and he isn't a powerful force in run blocking. He's Garrett Celek with better routes.

No, it does.
Coates has better hands than Funch.

Funch looks to be a possesion type WR.
Coates is a guy who can burn players and stretch our field to get pressure off our running game (I said that in my mock)

Why would we draft someone to play crabs/Boldins position when they can't catch?
Vernon has stone hands and did just fine (2013) playing the role I want Coates to play

Such a bad year for TEs....

I'll take O'Leary for his hands and guts but thats about all....maybe Saxton..
Wouldn't hate it but at that early we shouldn't pass on Ifo or DGB if they're on the board.

Ifo???????

Even if he was healthy he's not a top 15 talent!

I agree with your take on Coates and like you I´m a huge fan. Still, at this point he is first and foremost a downfield receiver and he struggles with drops while being that donwfield receiver.

So until he catches long throws with more consistency his hands are a problem and thats why I did not understand your analogy in this thread.

I hope we can take Coates in the 2nd round because I think he can play the Torrey Smith role for us in the future.

Not a fan of Funchess at 15

Never, ever draft a player in the first few rounds who doesn't have naturally good hands.

If Coates sits there at the start of the 2nd and we pass on him I will lose it. He is just inconsistent. When healthy and hot he is almost unstoppable downfield.
