2016 QB class

Remember you are only as good as your last play, this is the NFL afterall.

Let's face it, Kap has been totally crap all season, actually he wasn't all that great last season neither.
Sorry but you are exaggerating way too much. Kap was solid, sometimes good, sometimes bad. It happens to any young QB and even to more experienced guys like Rivers or Cutler. Nobody would seriously considering to get a replacement of a 2nd year starter through the upcoming draft.
inconsistent pass pro, bad TE play, wrong system (vertical passing without a single downfield threat) wouldn't help any QB. Given that our running game sometimes stuffed as well, the passing game becomes even more difficult.

BTW, the contract is big by the numbers alone but we can cancel the contract without any big hig against the cap in every spring. So, Kap's "motivation" is guaranteed through this detail.

Assuming we get a new OC or entirely new coaches next year, I think Kap gets one more year to prove himself before we have to seriously consider drafting a QB early. So how is the 2016 QB class shaping up?

If Harbaugh leaves, Kaepernick is on thin ice immediately. Baalke didn't want him reportedly, he wanted Dalton. The new coach will have nothing invested in him, the team will likely draft a QB to push him, so yeah, he's going to have to get it together and perform otherwise it could be his final season as a 49er.

Sorry, totally disagree.

I never wanted to give Kap his big contract this early in the first place and was hoping to draft Jimmy Garoppolo this year to compete with Kap to see what happens before we extend him. Well, look at what happened ?

So, in my book, we are already 1 year late in drafting an alternative QB. So, no way should we wait until 2016. We will have to draft that legit pocket passer next May without further delay. Let him compete and if he beats out Kap in camp, start him.
Yeah? Like who?

Clearly those guys are easy to find and we'll be the onlt team looking...

I don't think that this is his final season as a niner at all. New regimes mean new QBs in general, yes but we are talking about a solid QB who has got a lot of potential and this team is not in a rebuilding-mode at all.
The defense will get additional talent from IR and the draft, the offense, TE and WR in particular, will receive some new and never-seen-before weapons. The O-line will be certainly better next year if it stays out of any holdouts and injuries. With all the new and already existing help the next coach will try to build a system which serves the strengths of Kap. And they will try to work with him on his issues as well.
If this try fails, we will go for a new QB hard.

BTW, Baalke has given Kap a franchise-QB contract not just for fun.

Gunner Kiel. How can you go wrong with a QB named Gunner? Nice looking pocket QB, great accuracy, strong arm, quick release, good touch on his passes, good size.

At this time - what round would you see him being drafted?

Jared Goff is the QB for 2016 assuming he goes out early. He's a much better pocket passer than Kaepernick ever will be.

Almost every QB in the PAC 12 has huge numbers. They all play in wide open spread offenses that provide enormous windows. Very difficult to project any of them to the NFL.

it's about more than just numbers, the throws the kid makes are impressive as hell, more than adequate arm and good accuracy, very good feet and movement in the pocket and more mobile/agile than he seems. He still has to develop a bit more but on the track he is you'd definitely think he'd be one of the top QB's in the 2016 class.

2016 QBs?

Well first, who are the juniors coming out in 2015? Probably Hundley, Marriota, and Connor Cook. I think Boykin and Kessler will stay as they have potential to really push up their stock the following year. Winston should come out early too.

2016 senior QBs (note some will enter draft early in 2015:
Marcus Marriota, Oregon
Brett Hundley, UCLA
Connor Cook, Mich St
Trevone Boykin, TCU
Cody Kessler, USC
Dak Prescott, Miss State
Mike Bercovici, ASU

And junior QBs in 2016
Jameis Winston, FSU
Gunner Kiel, Cincinnati
Jared Goff, Cal
Kenny Hill, Texas a&M
Wes Lunt, Illinois
Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee

Meh on Kelly as well, very lacking as a passer.

Garrett Grayson and Jacoby Brisett are two more that I like quite a bit. Grayson has been money this year.

Yes, Kelly is not an NFL QB. I've been saying that for a long time

I like Kelly as a person, easy guy to cheer for. Bu if it wasn't for Jaelen Strong, his numbers would have looked quite bad. Also after he fractured his foot, he has never regained his confidence or mobility.

However his backup, and presumed starter next year, Mike Bercovici has the arm strength to catch scouts eyes. His problem is he is undersized (reportedly only 5'11 despite listed as 6'1), and he is reckless on his throws leading to picks. A lot of ASU fans feel if they left him the starting job that we would have won against Oregon State and Arizona. I would tend to agree.
I figured Kaep would go after Harbaugh hoes and wondered who we could get for next year. I too wanted Garopollo last year to compete with Kaep. I didn't see many good pocket passers I liked that might be in this class, I had posted about Connor Cook being good, but I don't see him being great. I can always count on Phoenix finding the good prospects. I like what I see from this Gunner Kiel. His next game Sat is on ESPN at 12:00est. He's a redshirt sophomore. Is there a chance he'll go pro this year? He'll be too high for us to get in 2016.

The only other avenue I see if if we trade Harbaugh to Oakland and get Carr in the deal. Here's a review of this year's QB's

I meant that 2015 could be his final season as the 49ers QB if he doesn't get it together, assuming Harbaugh does leave. Neither Baalke nor the new 49ers HC would have any sort of particular attachment or loyalty to him.
I'm surprised nobody has brought up Sean Mannion yet.
Dak Prescott
