but i would say our only immediate weaknesses next year will be a D lineman. Ray mac is whatever, J.Smith will be another year older (if we win the SB i bet he retires), Dorsey will be a FA, and I.Williams is a big question mark,

?

Ian Williams has played terrific so far. Aside from the eye ball test PFF currently has him rated as the 8th best d-lineman in the NFL.

Here are the Grades

Ian Williams 11.2 -> 8th in the NFL

Justin Smith 12.2 -> 4th in the NFL

Ray McDonald 4.9 -> 15th in the NFL

Also Dorsey is not a FA after this season. He is signed through 2016.

So we got the 4th, 8th, and 15th ranked d lineman in the NFL and can't create any pressure at all? Something not right with these rankings.

Agree. PFF is a good tool, but people put to much stock into their grades. Williams is playing fine, but no where near as well as Dorsey did for us last year, and Ray seems to have vanished imo, he's not as disruptive as past seasons. Justin is the only one playing up to their PFF grade.

All 3 of them have been rock solid against the run this year. Thats where the high overall grades are coming from (Run Defense + Pass Defense + Pass Coverage + Penalty = Overall Grade).

Huge fan of Dorsey but Williams is definitely no question mark !

We can agree they been solid vs the run. But when their rankings lists him as the 4th best d lineman in the league then you need to be more than solid vs the run. Where are the big plays? What exactly do they classify as pass defense? Batted passes? Sacks? hurries?

You dont think that Justin Smith has been more than solid vs the run and made big plays this season ?

Rd 4 Frank Clark..never really shines but always does his job..quietly productive..

Rd 5 Josh Shaw..very hesitant to take a cb but I thnk we lose cox bc his great play this year..a team will give him a contract I'm not so sure he deserves considering this is his only very solid year..I'd take a chance with Shaw bc if not for a stupid decision he would he a 2nd rounder atleast..

Rd 6 Eric Lefeld..online depth..remember seeing him n and he looked sold

Rd 7 AJ Tarpley..Stanford connection..special teams player who will be our 4th ILB..Wilhoite will sign elsewhere next year..
Bored of reading mock drafts who don't even provide the positions played by the players mentioned.

BTW, we've never drafted any Stanford-guy yet, iirc.

Ummm didn't kno I had to list the positions.. I will but all I'm saying is if you don't kno the player why does the position matter..just going to say nice mock or bad mock based on position ?????? And I kno we have yet to draft a Stanford player but In all honesty I didn't kno who or what position to take in the 7th round..not like he will make the 53 anyway.. Ps player..

Naw I haven't seen him make many big plays outside of the cowboys game. I think he had a FF vs the Rams. Besides that he's been quiet in terms of getting to the qb

Without derailing this thread any further I think we simply must agree to disagree here.
I think this offseason we focus on the lines. Our D-line is getting no pressure. QB's have way too much time to throw. We need 1 more strong defensive lineman who can rotate in. Especially with Justin Smith and RayMac getting a year older. You can never have too many good defensive linemen.

We also have to think about the offensive line. Iupati may be gone and Boone is playing poorly. We don't know what we have in Thomas and no one else is ready to step up. We may have to draft a guard.

We are strong at CB. We have Brock, Ward, Culliver, plus the 3 other rookies we drafted this year and we may get Cox/Cook back.We have great LB's when healthy and Lynch is coming on. On defense the need is defensive line and pass rush.

On offense the line is the biggest question mark. Even if we lose Crabtree and he may be resigned we still have Boldin and Johnson with Ellington and Patton coming on and we may get Lloyd back. There was no stampede to sign him before we did so if we want him back we could probably get him.

At RB we have Hyde and Lattimore and Hunter and Gore seems to be ageless. If we need more depth we could probably get a good back in the 4th or 5th rd for depth.

At TE we have Vernon Davis. McDonald has not lit it up but the jury is still out on him as a 2nd TE. We have Carrier, Celek and Trey Millard who can play some TE ala Delanie Walker as a FB/TE

Unless a miracle stud falls to us at another position the focus should be in the trenches and I would love to see the 49ers get a couple of studs in the 1st 2 rounds for the offensive and defensive lines. After that we could use a safety for depth and the rest is BPA.
