MadDog49er's FInal Draft Review and Niners' Draft Grade

i've been pretty harsh on Maddog over the last couple of seasons but i have to tip my hat to him this year. Was on point in the draft day thread pretty much every time

I would want that kind of attitude on my team, especially a pass-rusher like he is.

Being an *sshole who treats others like crap does not go hand in hand with being a good player. There are different kinds of attitudes that people would embrace on a football team, his may not necessarily be the one you want. Whatever though, i don't root for these guys as human beings, i root for them to win games so i hope he pans out big time.

If he wasn't an a*****e, he would probably be picked in the second. Good thing he's an a*****e considering this team handles a*****es fairly well.

I think there is a huge difference from him being a star recruit at ND and 'the big man on campus' at USF. Coming to the 49ers he's just some late round scrub rookie fighting for a spot on a stacked roster. Guys like Justin and Patrick Willis won't put up with his s**t and will quickly let him know where his place is.

I agree that it shouldn't be an issue because the veterans in the locker room simply won't put up with it.

Now had Lynch gone to say...Jacksonville or..*gulp* Miami, I think him acting out and being a disruptive presence would be a very legit concern.

I think the guy likely to have the most impact on how Lynch turns out is Jim Leavitt. Like a lot of others among the players and coaching staff, he's a no-BS SOB who commands respect, and demands the most from his players. I've read that they've known each other since Lynch was in high school. I don't know whether he or Harbaugh can/will play the role of father figure, but apparently that's what Lynch has been missing all his life (anybody know what became of his dad?). He's going to have to grow up fast if he wants to succeed in his chosen line of work, and I hope he can climb that mountain before his opportunity goes to waste.

Some people can change. Some people stay the same. A change in environment can help a lot.

Great post as usual. I know some Zoners don't appreciate your candid views but I do. Better candid than sugar coated. I did want to say that looking at pure numbers, I can understand why the Niners took flyers on CBs Reaser and Acker. Both appear to be good athletes....and fast.

For the Zoners, here are the numbers...

Reaser: 5'10" tall, 189 lbs., 4.32 40 yd. (best), 22 reps of 225 lbs. (so a very strong kid),
According to NFL.com, he is a "good-sized, smooth-moving, man-cover corner who showed the ability to mirror before a knee injury cut short his senior season."

Acker: 6' tall, 190 lbs., 4.42 40 yd. (best), 11 reps of 225 lbs., 36" vertical jump, 6.94 3-cone drill
According to NFL.com, he is a "big, short-area, zone corner with intriguing ball skills".

It seems to me the Niners just want good-sized CBs who are fast and athletic. They did the same thing in last year's draft with Cooper and this year with D. Johnson. Incidentally, as a reminder of why the Niners have kept Chris Culliver.

My guess is the Niners liked Reaser a bit better than Acker because he is so strong. Since Baalke has a good track record with late round corners, I'm going to give the team a pass on these 2 picks, especially since one of them will be on PUP all year.

I'm curious MD, what about Reaser made you give him a "C", other than value in the draft? Strong, fast corners would seem to be a good start on a developmental basis.

The niners have strong leaders to take care of trouble makers, getting them in line; but Hernandez of NE has given me some pause. I hope the team can refrain from picking up a true thug...just no reason to warp the team by having a truely scary guy like this. Not saying Lynch or any other rookie is a Hernandez...just don't want one on the team...any time! A lot of poster talk fondly of gangsta this and gangsta that...but real gangster behavior is very destructive.

I'm speculating but I can imagine that one of the reasons Zoners are upset about this pick is all of the off season problems several Niners have had recently (A Smith, Culliver, etc.)... Adding another potential "bad apple" to that mix seems like an invitation for more trouble.

Now, that stated, the Niners also drafted some guys with absolutely superb character traits (Ward, Borland, D Johnson, and Millard to name a few), so hopefully, they have enough of those types to set a good example for the ones with questionable pasts.

Like your grades but, the next two-three years will tell the story, hopefully ending with SuperBowl Rings. Now, for my two dollars (inflation) on M Sam. I remember the hoopla about Tebow before, during, and after the draft. I believe he earned the attention for his PLAY ON THE FIELD! But, to "celebrate" someone for his CHOICE to be a homosexual is perverse liberalism at best.

I agree with Tebow, yet he also grabbed attention with the fact that he mentioned God in every sentence million times, and in thje States that seems to be a big plus.

Homosexuallity is not a choice its nature that has chosen for you in the way it created you. I did not choose to be straight.

While Sam played with a lot of heart in college, I agree that he looked awfull in the Senior Bowl and combine. We´ll see how he´ll fare in the NFL, probaly a ST at best.

I don't think the God talk is a positive in the States in general, there are probably more put off by it than not ... but most just don't care one way or the other.

I don't see where this is the place to talk about why someone is the way they are be it by choice, genetics, luck, environment, or midichlorian count.
