ABs 2nd/Last WZ Collaborative Mock Draft- CIN(GoreFullBore) is OTC

Starters we will possibly have to replace within three years and the current player slotted to replace:

DE Ray McDonald - Tony Jerrod-Eddie
DE Justin Smith - Tank Carradine
OLB Aldon Smith - Corey Lemonier (Only if he can't get his life together)
SS Antoine Bethea - ? (He is on a four year contract, so it will depend on how he performs)
OG Mike Iupati - Joe Looney (This depends on free agent choices)
OG Alex Boone - ? (Same as Iupati)
WR Anquan Boldin - Quinton Patton
WR Michael Crabtree - ? (Again, free agent choices)
RB Frank Gore - Kendall Hunter/Marcus Lattimore

This list does not include injuries or unexpected decline, both of which tend to be unavoidable.

So, looking to the future, we need to spend middle to late round picks on:

1. 3-4 DE - Carradine has tons of potential but he is an unknown. TJE made strides last year, but he is still little more than a quality rotational player.
2. OG - One of either Iupati or Boone will probably be resigned. I would love to see both, but numbers are numbers. Looney is filled with potential but empty on experience. We need to bring in another guy to compete.
3. WR - Boldin is in the final years of his career and Crabtree is another guy facing salary cap decisions. Patton looks like a nice player, but this cupboard is mostly bare going forward. Hopefully we have Crabtree back, but the overall talent still needs a huge upgrade.
4. OLB - Lemonier should have a nice future, but Aldon's issues mean that we must hedge our bets.
5. Safety - We all want to see Bethea dominate for the duration of his contract, but we really only have special teamers behind the starters.

*Although numbered, that list does not indicate priority, just depth focus. The reason CB doesn't make the list is because it is our direst need and will be addressed immediately. This list is more about the middle to late round depth we will need.

I don't see the 49ers letting Boone go. They will choose either Boone or Iupati, my gut says Boone. They won't let both Guards leave in FA or Trades.

If we end up not getting a OG in this years draft, or Looney doesn't pan out 2015 has some good ones.

Tre Jackson OG Florida State
Jon Feliciano OG Miami(Fla.)
Landon Turner* OG North Carolina
Josue Matias OG Florida State
Vadal Alexander OG LSU
Arie Kouandjio OG Alabama
A.J. Cann OG South Carolina
Malcolm Bunche OG Miami(Fla.)
Bobby Hart OG Florida State
John Miller OG Louisville

Crabs is a toss up, I don't know if he is worth elite money, the kid can ball, but he has 1 solid season, and the others were injury riddled, or sub-par years.

I expect at least 1 WR drafted for the future this season, either rd 1 or 2.

Justin wouldn't surprise me if he played beyond 2015, I get the feeling he will stay if he feels he can play, and we will keep him, I'm sure he would like to retire a 49er, and with a ring or 2. Not HOF'er cause he doesn't have the sacks, which is bs, cause Justin is a usual pro bowler and all pro for us. He got no love in Cincinnati until he came to the Bay Area.

Boldin signed a 5yr deal technically, but voids after 2015, but I see him sticking around as long as he plays at a good level. I can see him voiding those voidable years, and sticking with us.

Bethea is a toss up, the deal is structured as a 2 yr deal, then 2 1yr options basically. If we don't draft a SS in this draft, then 2015 has some good ones.

Landon Collins* S Alabama
Cody Prewitt S Ole Miss
Josh Havey-Clemons* S Georgia
Josh Shaw S USC
Sam Carter S TCU
Corey Moore S Georgia
Derron Smith S Fresno State
Tevin McDonald S Eastern Washington
Jon Dowling S West Virginia
Durrell Eskridge* S Syracuse

I agree on Gore, Kendall(If retained after 2014) and Lattimore battle for RB1 spot. I can see Gore back on a 1 or 2 yr team friendly deal.

If Aldon keeps clean we have a good crop of OLBs, Brooks will be staying IMO, he is a team player, I expect he would take a pay cut if need be, but right now he is fine IMO. Lemonier stays, cheap rookie deal, I hope Skuta is retained after 2014, he is a great ST player. And we may draft a OLB like Marcus Smith(Louisville), Demarcus Lawrence(Boise State), or Dee Ford(Auburn).

Don't forget CB, Cully may not be back, who knows how his situation turns out. I also expect a early CB picked this year, maybe 2.

I love the idea of bringing in Tuitt to pair with Carradine for the future, but I think you are severely underestimating our immediate need for a high quality CB. Tuitt would be a luxury, but with Aldon facing at least a several game suspension our pass rush is going to suffer. Couple that with Culliver's legal trouble and the extremely underwhelming depth of Cox, Wright, and Cook, and our need for a CB to come in and make a difference now is paramount.

I'm not saying that I want us to draft a D-lineman before a CB.
I agree, I think our biggest need right now is our secondary... There are a lot of mocks on here that have us going CB-WR-CB/S-Dline

I would hope that we trade up in the first round to take a solid CB, then hopefully we can trade up again to grab somebody like Ealy or Marcus Smith.

Trust me dude, I've been one of the guys that has been trying to make the zone fall in love with Verrett.

Fair enough. Count me among Verrett's fans. Kids got play-maker written all over him.

  • It looks like next year's draft is loaded on the interior of the offensive line. You are right, we will keep either Iupati or Boone and Boone seems the better candidate. He is more versatile and has been more consistent at a position that is new to him.

  • I just don't see Justin or Boldin lasting past 2015. Boldin can't fight age forever and Justin will only keep playing if he is still going at a high level. He would never be ok with being a rotational guy. Just my opinion.

  • Crabtree is the biggest question mark. Even if he has a season comparable to 2012, it will still be questionable if we resign him. He wants big money and has a history of being a tough negotiation. We definitely need to add at least 2 WRs in this draft, even if one doesn't end up on the final roster.

  • Safety is definitely a questionable priority. Depth behind Reid and Bethea is an issue, but you can't be strong everywhere. Spillman and Dahl aren't horrible options, so waiting until next year to target a guy to develop behind Bethea makes sense.

  • I almost forgot about Hunter's contract. If we lose him, this suddenly becomes an area of concern.
Don't get me wrong I am enjoying the discussion , but it has been eight hours and thirty-eight minutes since the last pick what's going on here?

I'll admit, I am getting a little impatient.
This is silly. I missed the start because I was busy and I agree with AB's first pick for the Raiders but this isn't going to get done at this rate.
