Excellent mock draft... If Jason Varett is still around I'd swap him for Roby, heck let's try to get both if at all possible.

If a guy can't get off the LOS Kaep holds the ball, has to run more, and we become more predictable. We've seen this story time and time again on this team. In our offence - Greg Roman's offence - the WR have to be tough at the LOS to hold their own without having to always be schemed open. Mathews speed is more than adequate to stretch the field. With him we can go show 4-wide looks that the D will have to respect. We cannot continue to waste picks by trying to force-feed smallish speedy mice on our WR corps in a division that eats up smallish WR's. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying that we need a "top speed" to put us over the top. Not saying we couldn't benefit from one, but in the first round I think not.

Chuck Jacobs isn't any good. We need a top speed receiver. Yes you can win without one. You can win without a good QB. The Ravens did it with Dilfer. Why try if you don't have to? Our QB might have the strongest arm in football. We have no real deep threat at WR. The more we can hurt a team deep the more they have to play their safties back opening up the running game or get burned. Seattle plays us with 8 in the box in our 2 WR set making it hard to run and we don't have the speed to make them pay for it.

My thoughts exactly. Add Roby to the list of question marks, too. His problems aren't physical, it's mental.

Roby is definitely a great athlete, but his performance on the field and his actions off the field have to be in question. He was suspended for their opener after an offseason arrest. He was worked all day by a good but not great WR in Jared Abbrederis in their game against Wisconsin. He also gets burned alot (see graphic below)

If I had a choice between him and Verrett, I would take Verrett in a heartbeat. Verrett will also should be available because of his size, not his game.

Probably because he's been a ghost the last year and a half

I cannot see Frank Gore playing past this upcoming season, getting another rock pounder would be smart. West is a real between-the-tackles, balanced one-cut browser. Runs with anger. He could be our short yardage specialist that Dixon couldn't be. In the NFC West this guy is gonna fit right in. This could finally be the year that we part ways with Anthony Dixon like many here have been wanting to see. (Not me tough! I wanna see Dixon stay for his stellar ST play.) Like Frank, he runs behind his pads and use to running a heavy load. Big ?. Could make the 46 if Dixon is let go. Otherwise it'll be the 53. Would not last on the PS.
Thoughts?
Who is getting cut if they draft West? You're saying he'll replace Dixon, but Lattimore will take Dixon's spot. They're not going to carry more than four RBs, so that means for them to take West either Gore, Hunter, James, or Lattimore has to be gone. They also like Hampton (not that you could PS West w/out someone snatching him anyways).
I just don't see the need or room right now.

I like it. I just hope Matthews and Roby pan out to their potential.

Keep Roby far away from our roster. His game tape stunk this past year. I'd rather have Jason Verrett or Kyle Fuller.

You think Fuller would be a good fit ? Not sure if neither Fuller or Lee is tough enough for the NFC West !

Alot of talent there. Solid job. Personally not sold on Roby but love his athletic potential. Also like Moncrief a bit more but Matthews is good too. Love the Buchanon, McCullers, Richardson picks
Barring injury, that won't happen. No rookie that we'll draft will be starting over Crabby and Boldin, and it's not likely that they'll get more PT than Patton either which means at best, our rookie WR will be a #4 or #5 WR (depending on how Baldwin does in camp). So (IMO), upside should be considered as opposed to the ability to come plug right in. Now, if you feel Matthews has more upside than Moncrief, than so be it. I personally think both are going to be really good NFL WRs, but Moncrief with his vertical game is the more explosive player and that's something we're missing from our current group of WRs.

Fuller is a tough run defender who isn't a afraid to come up and blast ball carriers. In fact, if there's anything I worry about, it's Fuller's total disregard for his body when he tackles (see the Alabama game for a prime example).

It's not about question marks. Every player has them. I just don't think these guys are good football players. McCullers being a prime example. Reminds me of Herman Johnson. Biggest guy on the field, and really really looked the part, but just wasn't a good football player. Richardson, by all accounts, was schooled by everyone at the Senior Bowl, despite being a highly regarded prospect going in. I'm actually a bigger Roby fan than most.

I agree with the assessment of a rookie not starting...except if this is a pure slot guy. That guy will be worked into the lineup often, if he proves he can play. Think Cooks, specifically. Or, if I had my way, Abbrrederis.

I agree about Mathews. We need another with his speed or better that can make plays. Boldin will be here for 1-2 years and that's it and we might not be able to resign Crabtree. That coupled with 2 years in a row we have lost 2 receivers to injury I think it would be wise to draft 2. Janis is a question and Hoffman is too slow.
I don't think a speed receiver puts us over the top. I already think we are better than Seattle. They are what 9-7 on the road the last 2 years I think? If offenses had to wear ear plugs in our house we would destroy them. But with Kap's arm ,the ability to get down field and go the distance makes us better. It takes time to develop rookie receivers so I would like to get 2 considering we have 7 picks in the 1st 4 rounds in a very deep WR draft.
