Ya know, I think there are more available roster spaces on this squad than people have been saying. There's no reason that a 6th or 7th rounder couldn't compete at ILB, S, or T if he's a solid player.

At this point in the draft, maybe not so much at safety as we already have Reid, Whitner, Robinson, Spillman, Dahl, Thomas and McBath on the roster, but definitely ILB and OT. They definitely could grab another safety, but he'd have to really shine in camp to avoid ending up on the practice squad.

But Rambo and Evans were considered 3rd round talents. I think we should draft one and cut the older backups.

Those two are definite possibilities.

My big concern with Lattimore is his running style. Whenever he changes direction, his legs go at a real low angle to the ground, which I think puts a ton of stress on his knees. That is to say, that his knee injuries aren't just freak injuries, but that it's a problem that may continue.

Frank does the same thing, and his knees have been fine. NFL training staff>>>>>NCAA training staff.

Humm, intriguing pick. A 3rd DE. I'm shocked we haven't addressed the backup ILB spot yet.

More of a DT then DE will be able to backup any position on DL could be future NT
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the pick. We do need guys on the interior D-line. Plus, I figured this to be a D heavy draft for us anyway. But I'm shocked we haven't yet drafted an ILB to backup Willis and Bowman. Who do we have behind them if one goes down? Now, the drat isn't over so I really hope we get Kevin Reddick if he isn't taken.
Niners could still re-sign Tavares or even Grant.

If not we can move Fleming inside...He has a better chance earning a spot there

The draft tells me the staff sees the coverage problem as a pressure problem. DE - OLB - DE. Good to see that they look to be acquiring DL depth that should be good in the future.

Love the Dial pick. He's a true 5-technique, so he should be RayMac's backup while Tank backs up Justin.

looks like an NT 320 pounds

Too Tall? Get out leveraged?
From NFL.com...

Quinton Dial:

STRENGTHS Versatile athletic defensive lineman who plays on the nose, three-technique and five-technique spots on either side of the line. Tall, powerful player who can drop his hips despite his height to hold his ground or drive his man backwards on bull rush. Also capable of holding the edge against the run, using strong arm extension and hands to contain or crash inside. Has good short area agility for his size, and often hustles to the ball. Wraps up ballcarriers in tight quarters with bad intentions.

Now that Sturgis is gone, tbe team may have to make a move to secure either Hopkins or Sharp.
