MadDog's Big 253 Board- March 23rd Edition

  • Greetings, all! With the draft about one month away, it is time for the season of futility. Futility as in attempting to project the draft position of the current number of 253 selection (to my count, thanks to the Saints). This is the entire draft, which I will summarily trash within ten minutes of posting. You've got to get out there, as grandpa would say.

As OTC and I have stated for some time now, this is not a 7-round mock, although for fun, I have mocked the first round. Why no 7 round mock? Because picks change hands so often, it is silly to project a specific player to a specific team in a specific slot in the third round. In the top 100 picks alone last year, nearly one-third changed hands. And, it only gets worse as the draft progresses. To throw Niners' fans a bone, I have mocked a 7-rounder for our team, which will be in bold. Of course, after the first three selections, the draft number can be all over the place, depending on the number of compensatory picks in each round. I give a rough area where I think the Niners will pick in each round. Possible compensatory picks are not included for the Niners.

This is also not a value board, nor best available board. This is a projection of where I believe players will slot into (they may not fall on an exact number, but will be in this area). I did, by blind luck, hit on Chris Culliver at number 80 last year. But, would it really matter if he went 79th or 81st? To me, no.

A little red meat for all of you. If you see funky combinations on this post, where players clearly mangled from my Excel Spreadsheet, like Trent Richardson, DT, LSU, please let me know. Spelling corrections welcome, as well as criticism of a favorite player not listed, or listed too low. I will accept your cyber boos. Have fun, it is the draft, cheers.

Running tests on how to download Excel so that it doesn't create one paragraph. Webzone not posting Excel spreadsheet in linear order, like last year. Not sure why it is adding bullet points, and highlighting in blue specific players.

Member Milestone: This is post number 600 for ishkabibel.
Great job as always. Thanks. A little surprised your waiting so long to draft WR. Care to comment? Think Moss will help bolster receiving corps.

If you use the other editor, instead of wysiwig, it posts correctly.

Now to comment on the post.

1) It's early, but I think this year you're going to beat me.

2) Spelling corrections: Levy Adcock*, Quentin Saulsberry*, Keenan Robinson*, Olivier Vernon's name is backwards.

3) My current discrepancies:

Higher:
Lamar Miller, RB
Josh Kaddu, LB
Billy Winn, DE
Marvin Jones, WR

Lower:
Joe Adams, WR
T.J. Graham, WR
Kirk Cousins, QB
Nick Foles, QB
id take alshon jeffery in 2nd that would be a perfect draft amost
Jayron Hosley is spelled wrong at 45

Thanks for the effort Maddog. I'll set some time aside to look at this in detail.

I'm not a Jeffery fan but if he falls to 62 I take the risk.

Thanks for the editing.

Folks: let's all keep it civil in here. Personal attacks on anyone will not be tolerated. Thanks!
Good job MD, but should be 254 picks when Comp Picks are announced, 222 current picks(Saints 2nd and Raiders 3rd are forefited), then the 32 comp picks.

Yikes! Spelling senility has taken over. Thanks for the help.

On the lower list, I think Adams and Graham break the top 100 on the additional special teams skills they present. I know I have Graham going much higher than others. We will see with Cousins as a third rounder. It seems like momentum is on his side, but know knows. Foles could be all over teams' boards on draft day.

Just read than Winn had a very good comeback at the Boise State Pro-Day. Marvin Jones could go as early as 80. I just think he goes a bit later.

Of course, as you know, I like the back end of the draft more than anything else. Some of the small schoolers are looking great in these workouts, and could surprise on draft day. Glad the Niners were one of the few teams at Western Kentucky. I like both of their prospects this year at RB and CB, in Rainey and Brooks.
Nice job! This appears to be a very deep draft. I see a ton of intriguing prospects from 1-253. A lot of quality small school prospects as well.

It does look increasingly likely that an interior lineman could be the pick for us at #30. If that's the case, I hope Konz is available. We could plug him in at RG, and possibly shift him to Center in the future, but I'd be happy with Zeitler.

If we go d-line in the 2nd, I think the team would pick Crick over Ta'amu. The Niners never seem to have an interest in these 340-350 lb behemoth nose tackles. I'd love to have Crick as the heir to Justin Smith's throne.

I like seeing Fletcher Cox in the top 10 picks, best DT in the draft IMO.One of my personal favorite sleepers in the draft is S Kelcie McCray. I was hoping we could get him in the 6th-7th but you have him slated at #134! I could definitely see that happening though. Who wouldn't want a 6'2" 200 safety with 4.4 speed and ball skills? Could be a nice prospect to develop in case a long-term deal with Goldson cannot be reached.

Overall, great job as always. I always like your big boards better than draftcountdown, draftscout, espn, walterfootball, etc.

Nice read, I would jump on the Billy Winn bandwagon here also and think he goes higher. As you noted he bounced back at his pro day and the Boise guys are really well coached, nice class from them coming out.
