I agree. I think, when it's all said and done, they go with Marcell Dareus at #1 overall.

Have you read this little tidbit from a couple days ago :

Quote:
Former high-ranking Panthers executive Tony Softli predicts that Carolina will pass on Cam Newton and take Alabama DT Marcell Dareus with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
"They need defensive linemen. They have for awhile," says Softli, who also has a history with the Rams. "I really think they're gonna pass on Cam Newton. ... I really believe it's gonna be the defensive tackle." While we still take everything with a grain of salt, it's important to note that Softli's info has been solid this offseason. He was the first to point out Adrian Clayborn's Erb Palsy condition, and among the first to explicitly report on Ryan Mallett's drug use at Arkansas.

That could certainly blow things up.

It ends the chances of us taking Peterson and it puts Carolina in the driver's seat for Andrew Luck next season.

Denver: PP, Buffalo: Newton, Cincy: Green, Arizona: Von Miller, Cleveland trade down Gabbert, We still gets the choice between Quinn or Prince

Maybe. Or maybe it goes

Dareus
Peterson
Miller
Green
Arizona trades out
Quinn

That leaves us with Newton/Gabbert/Fairley/Prince. If Arizona takes Quinn then Cleveland could trade out or take Jones. Cincy could even be the team that trades out. We really don't know what teams will be willing to sacrifice future or current draft picks thus there is even a slight chance both Newton and Gabbert are both there at 7 and perhaps we trade out if we don't take one of them.

All I know is if Dareus goes #1, everything could get blown up and change drastically (for better or worse) for us. And if Dareus goes #1, a lot of WZ'ers are going to miss our pick because there TV's are going out the window once Peterson is off the board.

That's silly because I think Prince is just as good as a cover CB. he's more fluid. PP makes up for his lack of fluidness with his freakish athletic ability. I think the Niners would be happy with Prince. I would, but if this scenerio happens look for us to trade back a little.

You have to understand that many hearts are set on Peterson just as they were with VD and Willis. Prince is a nice consolation prize but those bandwagoners will still be disappointed.

And maybe we take a QB in that scenario.

I Live out here in Carolina & sorry to say there has been little talk of Newton going to Carolina.
Show me where you get this info? Besides Kiper & McShay.
Not buying it. It will be Darius from all the chatter i've heard. rivera wants to build a defense that will be destructive. Miller has been thrown in the mix to.

Um ESPN radio 103.1 from Columbia has been saying nothing but Newton going to the Panthers. Dareus is pretty much right below Green,Peterson and Newton. In Aiken every Panther fan I know wants Newton or Green. Pretty much cause they think Clausen sucks and Smith is old n slow now. Id say its a toss up between Newton or Green.
I thought all along they should go with Dareus. If that happens what does Den. do? Comes down between PP, Fairley, and Miller. If Den goes with Fairley sets up the best situation imaginable for the 9ers.

i would love it for the Panthers to take Cam Newton #1.

Not only bc we wont have to draft him, but it would leave a lot of talent on the board that could make an immediate impact/upgrade on our defense.
I think I missed the draft. Who did the Niners pick at #7?

Denver will do whatever it can to trade out of #2, or just draft Peterson if they can't trade down. Then again, Carolina could ask for one of Denver's 2nd rounders (they have two) allowing the Broncos to move up to #1 to secure Dareus...

i think the smart thing to do would be go with green and take a qb next year

Green or Dareus IMHO. If you do take Green then you have to give serious consideration to dealing Steve Smith once free agency begins, whenever that is.

However Carolina could lose Charles Johnson and could badly use the front 4 help on defense.

Doubt they trade smith off if they took green! Smith has been asking for a young play maker at wr for the last few years someone who he can mentor and so he can become the number 2 wr. I believe he said he wants to be the teams number 2 wr. Either way you can have 2 good wr's but who's throwing the ball to them, and who's making tackles on defense?

Don't think it will happen but can you imagine the buzz in the Niner camp if Carolina goes Dareus, Denver goes Fairley and that leaves Newton there for the Bills. We would be at the 4th pick with none of our top prospects gone.

Oh don't get me wrong I know any espn radio/tv pundit is putting Newton #1. But the local newspapers/ panther beat writers beg to differ. Not once was Newton's name brought up, except when they said they were more impressed with Mallett as a passer than Newton.
Defense or Green. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Green
I wish Newton would fall to us. Is there any chance of that happening?

A hope and a prayer.

Harbaugh has showed minimal interest

He is too smart to take the obvious. He will find our Joe Montana/ Brady of the future.
