2010 draft revisited.

I know it is easy to go back and say coulda woulda coulda, but a lot of mock drafts and zoners have the draft going down the way it could have.

Round 1 pick 13, Earl Thomas FS
Round 1 pick 17 Mike Iupati
Round 2 pick 45- Jared Veldeer OT

Just doing the first two rounds with no traded. Same players at positions of need, just switched.

A lot of mocks had the niners taking Earl Thomas and best OL at 17. I hope DAvis pulls his head out of his arse and Taylor Mays proves the niners did not make a Raider type speed draft choice.

I would have loved to have Earl Thomas. I think Mays can be a very good safety for us though. In the second though I would have gone with Ducasse or Charles Brown though.
And I also wasnt aware that Anthony Davis had his head up his arse.
No. If your doing NO trades, you'd take:

Devin McCourty at 13 (Davis pick)
Maurkice Pouncey (or Iupati) at 17
Brandon Spikes at 49 (Mays pick),
Colt McCoy at 79 (moved back then picked Bowman),
Aaron Hernandez at 113 (pick we gave to Denver),
LeGarrette Blount at 173 (Dixon pick),
J'Marcus Webb at 182 (Byham pick),
Marc Mariani at 206 (Williams pick),
Sam Shields at 224 (Adams pick)

There's no way you'd pick Thomas over McCourty. And every position we picked had a better alternative later in the draft.
But theres no sense in doing it. We have who we have. It's 2010 "The Year of the Harbaugh"

I think in a couple of years the 2010 draft class will look very good for the niners. Davis, Mays and Bowman were very raw last year but showed the talent they have. Iupati is already beast. I'm still onboard with the picks they made last year and should hopefully start to see more payoff this year.

Iupati is going to be a perennial pro bowl LG. Pro bowl level LG > Pro bowl C

Pouncey was more widely known. If Iupati played for the Steelers he probably would have gone. Iupati played just as well as Pouncey.

Totally disagree.

Playing center is easier than playing LG in the NFL. Just look at David Baas. He looked lost as an LG but played exceptional as a center. Teams looking to solidify their lines go OT, then OG, then C (outside going in).

Also, Pouncey was helped by a good oline around him already. Iupati had a new center (signal caller) and had another rookie with him (Anthony Davis).

Iupati is bigger, stronger, and faster than Pouncey. Iupati is going to be WAY better than Pouncey ever will be.

No way LG is easier than C. That's why teams usually start them at Guard and then work them into center because its easier mentally with protections and line calls. unless they're high draft picks.

Teams looking to slidify their lines don't usally go OT then OG. Center is a bigger priority. More centers have gone in the 1st round since 2003 than guards.
jets- D'Brick and Mangold
Panthers- Kalil than Otah
Browns- Thomas than Mack

"Pouncey was helped by a good oline around him already" What are you talking about? Go ask any real Steelers fan what their top 2 bigest needs were before and after this year. They'll tell you OL.

"Iupati had a new Center" that shouldn't be an excuse cause Baas played "exceptionally" And Davis just makes Iupati look better if anything.

Iupati is bigger yes, stronger yes, quicker no, smarter who knows. Iupati may be better then Pouncey at some point, but Pouncey will have the better career.

And insert Bill Walsh 2.0 into mouth! Mmm doesn't he feel good! We have a great coach to lead this young man, and to put more talent around this young man and i want some fing superbowls!!!
This thread was never intended to be a Iupati vs Pouncey thread. Iupati and Pouncey both had stellar rookies seasons, the niners would have been good with either as a draft choice.

My point was the Niners would have been better searved with Earl Thomas> Taylor Mays and Anthony Davis was outplayed by the third round pick who started as a rookie for the Raiders in Jared Velheer.

The insult to injury is the trading away a 4th to move up to get Davis.
