You're not the only one. This guy does an insane statistical analysis for QBs, and has found some pretty clearcut attributes that the "elite QBs" have. It's not perfect, of course, but it's statistically significant.

Anyway, he, like you, sees Tom Brady when he looks at Stanzi (statistically - he admits to not having watched much of him on tape). And he was not expecting that at all.

NFL Draft 2011: Statistical Analysis of Ricky Stanzi, the Best QB in the 2011 NFL Draft and/or the next Tom Brady?

Wow. This definitely made my day. GREAT find.

I'd love to see Ghost's and MadDog's thoughts on this article.

I was wrong. SWAG is a football genius and I bow in humility to his greatness.

How's that?

Perfect

Mmmmmmm . . . not sure that "humility" is the right word here . . . "obeisance" maybe?

The article is an interesting read. Stanzi has a lot of the intanglibles the NFL likes. He has excellent size, a decent arm, pretty good mobility in the pocket, experience, and more. He also had a good 2010 year.

The problem is that he is simply not consistent enough in pressure situations to impress people to move into that top-level catagory in prospects. In fact, he's really a third tier QB in this draft (not with Gabbert and Newton) and not with the second tier draftees (Locker, Ponder, Dalton, Kaepernick). He's probably a fourth round draftee.

The writer stated that see saw only a few Stanzi games this year. That is unfortunate, since I saw nearly every Iowa game this season. Stanzi was sharp early in the year, but faded pretty badly down the stretch. In fact, statistically, his worst four games of the season came....at the last four games of he season. Against one of the worst defenses in the country in Minnesota (98th in total points allowed), he threw for less than 50% and posted 7 second half points. Against Missouri, he led them to 3 second half points. Against Northwestern, he had zero fourth quarter points against the 77th ranked defense, and was thoroughly outplayed by Dan Persa at the end of the game.

The knock in the Big Ten on Stanzi has always been that he is invisible during crunch time, in pressure situations, where his team needs him to pull out a victory. There were too many times I would sit in front of the TV in the first half and say, "This guy is the total package". And, then halftime happens and a different quarterback emerged out of the tunnel. This inconsistency has been maddening to follow, and is the main reason he is not considered a top tier QB in this draft.

Ricky Stanzi was not named All Big Ten first team, nor second team, nor honorable mention by either the conference coaches or the conference media. While that is not a disqualifier for his professional future, it does show a lack of impressiveness this season.

people...this a forum, we use words to communicate...if you can't read, stay out or just don't post.
I'd make these changes:

Remove Add

Stanzi Locker
Skrine Jimmy Smith
Watkins Pouncey
Reed Ayers
Moch Aldon Smith
Carter D. Thomas
Jernigan Hankerson/Baldwin
Left out Cameron Jordan...remove Titus Young.

4:36 mark shows Stanzi's comeback in "crunch time, in pressure situations, where his team needs him to pull out a victory".

To overcome 5int's through 3 quarters (some in part due to a very windy atmosphere) and comeback not only to get the win, but to just have the mental toughness to stick with it is extremely impressive.

The bottom line is Stanzi has the credentials and talent to be exceptional at the next level. With NFL coaching, the sky is the limit for this kid. Because when he's on, i'm not sure there's anyone that can get in this kids way.

If what you are saying is true, he'd be a surefire first rounder. Inconsistent play is always what downgrades him in the end. He simply is not consistent enough to be a top tier QB.

I have probably seen more of Ricky Stanzi than anyone else in this draft. And, I think the kid is a terrific young man. I wish him the best. I doubt that coaching will solve the issues that have obstructed his rise to the top.

Coaching alone can only take a player so far. Think about Alex Smith, who was the number one pick. He has had a ton of coaching, has more intangibles and game than Stanzi, and is still limping along in this league.

I understand that you are emotionally invested in Stanzi, but you have to evaluate him like every other prospect. He simply is not highly regarded, and there are legitimate concerns and criticisms that has surrounded him throughout his career and into this offseason.

As a fourth round prospect, the chance of him succeeding in this league is minimal. Do you really want to throw all of your eggs in that basket? If so, I salute your dedication to him. But, if I were you, I'd hitch much more of my wagon to an underdog like Buster Skrine than Ricky Stanzi.

I've seen Stanzi play in about 40 games in his college career, and I think you should take a step back and re-evaluate him. He is simply not that good. There is no shame in taking a step back to upgrade or downgrade a player on your board. Even the pros shift their board all over the place.

Mayock and Kiper have both said he's a 2nd round prospect. Yes, others have him lower, but those 2 are probably the most respected pundits in the biz. So he is highly regarded in some circles.

And i was one of the first on the board to be on Buster Skrine wagon. Been reppin him hard. So consider me not only hitched, but driving the sucker. Huge fan of his.

And i was one of the first on the board to be on Buster Skrine wagon. Been reppin him hard. So consider me not only hitched, but driving the sucker. Huge fan of his.

Any team drafting Stanzi is going to have to expect him to need the amount of time Ryan Fitzpatrick needed to develop. Stanzi has the pieces that make up a potentially good QB in the NFL, but the brain is sometimes not all there, thus the inconsistency issue.

Stanzi tops the 2nd-tier quarterbacks of this class, but is a late 3rd rounder to me. You just don't know what you're going to get with Stanzi in the NFL.

Problem with doing these kind of rankings is - you're just shooting in the dark. Predicting who will be a good player after 2-3 years in the NFL and doing rankings according to that is insignificant. So much is based on luck...what kind of team a player goes to, what kind of coaches are there, what kind of opportunities he will get, can the player handle living in a big city, can he stay healthy...etc etc etc.

Man you must really love Stanzi

I see a more mobile Tommy Brady. I know that sounds extreme, but i see a young Tommy in him.

Ha no way in hell have you watched Iowa. Ill give you some credit for Ponder who is a good QB just unlucky with injuries but Stanzi is s**t. He was on a very good team each year. His OLs were top notch like his RBs and receivers. Yet when Bowl games he played like s**t. Montana, Brady etc etc those late rd gems you like comparing Stanzi too. Never sucked it up in crunch time or in bowl games like Stanzi. They put up not mediocre or bad numbers like Stanzi but great numbers. Yeah Stanzi had comeback games but those were defensive comebacks and buddy just handed off threw screens. He never faced a good team where he himself brought his team back from defeat with his own stellar play. Youtube wont show you what ya need to know about Stanzi. Even Hawkeye homers dont show Stanzi love like you do lol. Theres just now way in hell you watched him play a few seasons and still think so highly of him. Stanzi same measurables and upside as Dorsey same game killing 4th qtr play like Rattay. I say Rattay cause you might not remember DeBerg.

A. I've watched every snap of Stanzi's college career.

B. You didn't read this article did you...
