Do We still Draft of Sign a QB

Browse 49ers books and videos
I don't think any of our four QB's will be on the team next year. So, we will need to sign a free agent or two and draft a QB or two.

Honestly, I see Carson Palmer or Donovan McNabb as our starter next season, with a drafted QB being primed to go in 2012 or 2013. Or, if the team wants to be bold, make a move for Kevin Kolb.

McNabb will either be released outright, or traded for a 5th rounder or later. Palmer maybe has 4th round trade value.

They should draft at least two QBs and sign two more. Bring about 5 or 6 QBs into camp and let them battle it out. We need to seriously develop this position again.
Looks like McNabb isn't going to last in Washington. I say we sign him to a 3 year deal, work on our secondary in the draft this year and draft a QB next year. That will give us a better opportunity to see what we already have and impove sooner than later, whil

QBs will be McNabb, T Smith, Nate Davis.
Gruden made a comment about getting a guy (QB) who can some in and run your offense. I think that's what they will do whether Gruden or someone else is the QB. They are not getting Andrew Luck so I think they team will go out and get a vet and draft someone to develop. The 9ers are a 9-10 win team with a decent QB who doesn't kill you with turnovers and a real coaching staff.

Of Course!
IMO McNabb is through.
There should be no plausible way that the 49ers start the next season w/o a new man in there as QB.
Be it a rookie let Troy play for awhile (if hes retained) till the rook is ready to hopefully takeover.. if hes the right guy.
if we go get a vet, same game plan. we need to draft a guy and raise our own talent much like the Colts do.

Actually like this idea.. let competition weed out the weak and only keep guys who can make plays.
just for kicks lets keep Alex up to this point, film the competition and show all the Alex diehards what a good QB looks like next to him.

Good God no. Another year without hope. We must take a high-ish pick in the draft.

We can barely find enough snaps to prepare 2 QBs in the off season. Bringing in 5 QBs will just net you 5 backups.

We need to develop somebody, not just throw sh*t against the wall and pray something sticks.

Our hope for next year starts with a new coaching staff, imo.

If Gruden gets hired, you can bet he brings in a large amount of QBs to battle it out. I think he had 5 or 6 on the Bucs training camp roster a few years back.

Yes -- if we miss the playoffs, I think we go get a corner or a pass-rusher in the Top 10, then take Ponder/Devlin/Stanzi in the second or third round.

I'm partial to Ponder, and I think he will be a very good NFL player.

Our secondary is worse than our QB situation (especially if we get McNabb) . . . . No secondary = no hope. There is not a QB in the world that will get us to score enough points to be elite until we can stop other teams from scoring at will. With Brady or Manning this year, we might have won 2 more games and be 9-7. We are good on stopping the run. We need to stop the pass.

Agreed. Hence "highish". And most secondaries are only as good as their pass rush, for obvious reasons.

Which is why I am opposed to trading up for Luck. Too much to do.
