Do We still Draft of Sign a QB

vince young will be avail after the season ends or even in couple weeks

looking at the number of teams looking for an upgrade @ QB who would be picking in front of us if we win 2 more games, i feel its highly unlikely there will be one on the board when it comes time for us to draft....unless we finish 6-10 or 5-11, we could be bashing our heads against the wall as we watch this potential sweet 2011 class of QBs all get selected long before we get to pick...

man i'm so torn about going to the playoffs

vick will get tagged, kolb would require a trade, Mcnabb would suck in our current offensive style, and Vince young is trash.

It took me awhile to look up the Notre Dame QB, but I get it now:

Yeah, if Troy leads us to the playoffs I'd slap a fat 'franchise' contract on him and go from there (then re-negotiate a new long-term contract during the 2011 season if he continues his success). -But draft a guy like Ricky Stanzi in the 2nd/3rd round for insurance (to develop at #2).

I was telling my friend the same thing. Stick with Troy and draft a qb in 3 or 5 round and see if we can develop one with raw skills. He kept telling me tho all good qbs will be gone by that point what an idiot.

Are you guys delusional? Their isn't a QB on our roster worth a spot next year. Didn't you guys get the news? Every team figured out Troy Smith. While yes, he's a better option then Alex because of turnovers. He is not our or any teams answer for more than a couple games.

So we give Smith 6 years, and don't even give Troy Smith 6 games? In those few games i saw much more potential than I've ever seen out of Alex. He still doesn't have a full grasp of the offense and he played decently and limited the turnovers. Get Rid of Alex and Carr, keep Troy.

Alex will sign elsewhere...Carr will likely be cut...Troy Smith could be resigned, as a b/u. I'd like to see Nate Davis moved up...to compete for a b/u role. So, to answer the question, yes, we need to draft a QB and sign a FA. Some of this depends on who the GM and head coach are...hopefully two new dudes to turn this franchise around. But, on the whole, yeah, we're most likely looking at a new QB corps, save maybe Nate, if the new regime deems him worthy of some real development.

More of the same crappy football next year if they don't upgrade the QB position. This is an all-backup roster at QB yet again this year.

Troy Smith is not going to command a lot of money in FA, so I would try to re-sign him to a short deal just to keep a veteran presence at QB. I would, then, draft a QB early in this draft. That way we can start Troy Smith for the first part of the season (or whole season if he does well) and then groom the rookie to take over at some point. If Troy ends up doing well, then we have ourselves a pretty good situation at QB like the Eagles currently have. We can, then, trade Troy after the season.

I would only be happy with one of the two scenerios:

1)Throw the kitchen sink at Kolb and bring back Troy as a back up. I dont care about draft picks. If I knew we have a shot at a franchise QB I would pull a Mike Ditka (Give up all my draft picks).

2)Sign McNabb and draft a QB in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd and let him sit for the next two three years.


P.S. None of this will matter unless we gut the current coaching staff and bring people that actually know how to run a football team.

I agree, this is all mute unless there's a new HC and GM preferably.

But just to play along... i would draft a QB, and i think we can land one in the 2nd or 3rd rounds for depth definately.

Kolb is definately interesting, there's not much talk about him now, but how is he supposed to exist backing up Vick??
