He certainly would be hard to pass up. I think I probably would select him if we signed a vet QB or if we stayed with Troy Smith. But that's only if the top QB's aren't available. But if its between him and Patrick Peterson, no doubt its Peterson coming off the board.

I used to think maybe we could get a steal in the 2nd round but with each weeks it seems he's more of a sure 1st round pick, if he declares.
He could always go back to school and possibly be the top WR next season, but damn this kid is GOOD

Blackmon is really good, def a potential mid-late 1st rd pick.
I have several WRs as potential 1st rd picks;
Green- Top 5
Jones- Top 15
Baldwin- Top 15
Floyd- Top 25
Blackmon- Late 1st
Little- Late 1st
Childs- Late 1st
then the next tier
Tolliver, Posey, Binns, etc....

Green is the real deal. Jones will be good, Blackmon should be...I hope so. Def a mid to late 1st. I hope so, I like the way he plays.

I respect your opinion so I'll ask, what puts Baldwin and Floyd ahead of Blackmon? The fact their production has been there for more than one season?
their size?

You didn't ask me, but IMO it's size and speed. I really like Blackmon but I'm kind of leery of drafting him because of Crabtree. They both aren't burners and both are about 6'1'', and they both play in spread shotgun systems from college. If we grab one this time I kind of rather get a WR who is renowned for their size or toughness and they present a match up problem like a Fitz/Andre Johnson or Boldin type player. I've liked Blackmon when I've seen him and I'd probably be more receptive to picking him if I knew he was really an excellent route runner, but that's hard to see on tv? I mean is he going to turn out as Isaac Bruce/Marvin Harrison or is he going to be Robert Meachem?

That's fine and dandy, but my question was in regards to Blackmon as an overall WR prospect, and not really about his impact towards our team where I'd agree with you he's very much like crabtree (not the worse thing in the world but a propsect like Floyd would be a better fit for our needs if he can be that Fitz/Andre kinda WR - which I don't think he'll be THAT good)
And I've watched A LOT of JB this season, he's a very good route runner and he's drawn comparisons to Boldin even

I would take him then if he runs more routes than Crabtree did in college. If he's more like a Harrison with the route running or a Boldin with the toughness then I'd take him, where as Crabtree was mainly explosive with the YAC off the screen passes. I was a huge fan of Crabby at first and I still think he can be good, but he's not as good as I thought he'd be and he's not helping us that much regardless of who the QB is. I've noticed a few of JB's TDs have come on corner routes to the back of the end zone I believe, so maybe his route running is legit. I like him as a prospect though.

so I missed the game on saturday (which turned out to be a hell of a game
) how did he look?
I know he was battling that ankle injury, yet he still somehow managed to put yet another 100+yd game and TD, a perfect 11/11 this season
for those of you who watched, how did he look?

IMO, Green is the cream of the crop, but Blackmon isn't too far behind. I'd select Blackmon over Julio Jones.
I could see Blackmon in the top-15 and possibly sneaking into the top-10. I don't think I'd take Jones until the #15-20, at the earliest.
BTW, the biggest reason I think Amakamura is overrated is by the way he was dismantled by Blackmon. Prince looked lost against him. I think it's more of a tribute to Blackmon's ball skills than Prince's coverage ability, but either way, Prince didn't stand a chance against him.

I can't hate on Prince for being beaten by a monster, I still think Amakamura will be a pretty damn good CB and could go top 10
I agree with you about Blackmon over Julio but I have them tied. IMO Julio's upside is a lot bigger than JB's.
and as I type this JB drops an easy one, SMH
well not the easiest one over, kinda turned him around, but still should have gotten it

And I'm missing the game. I've been studying all evening, but just slipped away for a second.

Ok, no passrusher, No QB, No CB!!! Trade back a few spots, selection blackmon. Now you have ammo to trade up for a qb if you see one not slipping and he's your guy. Or you wait it out take the qb, then go passrusher! Or flip flop and take a shot at a 4th round qb.

I want Prince because we need a corner more than a WR but if he's not there I wouldn't mind if we traded back a few times to pick up some more assets, and then we picked Blackmon or Julio Jones around 12-16 area.
