We need a speed receiver, not a Crabtree wannabe. For a return man, rather than Gilyard we should draft a RB like McCluster or one of the low round midget return specialists.

This. I would be shocked if we went WR in the 1st 3 rounds.

What about J.Ford with the third pick (assuming we get an OT and some secondary help with the first few picks)

Personally with all the small school scouting and KR?PR only guys we've heard about i think we draft a guy arouind 4 or 5 that simply returns kicks at a high level.

I agree but the new trend seems to be draft guys that do multiple things. gone are the days of drafting a guy strictly for returns.

Kiper's predictions sucked balls. Gilyard? Yeah, we don't need another Arnaz Battle.

A CB in the first when that's our 4th priority behind OT, Offensive Playmaker, Pass Rusher?

When did Kiper start smokin?

You've got to be kidding me, Joe. Gilyard is nothing, absolutely nothing like Arnaz Battle. I assume by this statement you know very little about Gilyard, and never saw enough of him to form an educated evaluation of him.

49er fans should not be upset if they land Gilyard.

The only puzzling pick there would be Atkins, who likely would be playing out of position at end, relegated to a situational role playing inside on passing downs.

Yeah i was going to say.. lol Gilyard is nothing like Battle, completely different players. gilyard was a speed reciever/ KR/PR while battle was a QB in college converted into a WR who occasionally returned punts and was absolutely atrocious at it. I would love gilyard in the 3rd round cause we NEED a reciever who can stretch the field and it would solve our problem in the return game. sign me up!

Gilyard's 40 time is reported as 4.60 (draft countdown) and 4.56 (fftoolbox) although he is referred to as "speedy". I think he is more quick in terms of being able to get open, but isn't a fast receiver according to the times.
Yes, a CB in the 1st rd...Haden's worthy of the #13 pick. This is most likely Clements' last year as a Niner...so it makes good sense to get the best CB in the country and get one of the top OT's. I like Gilyard, as he's also a very good KR, but I want to see the best OG on the board IF Singletary doesn't "man-up" and get both his OL in the 1st. Davis and Iupati or Pouncey would fix what ails the OL. I have no problem w/Misi...he seems to have that non-stop motor, and Atkins could become a valuable DL. Mel's guesses are probably as good as any of the other noted draft experts.
ok, let me pick this apart.

Gilyard is too high for me, Misi is a 2nd, Atkins should be a early 3rd.

Now as for others.

Notables he has Ducasse in the 3rd, he is easily a early 2, maybe late 1.

Perrish Cox a 3rd, i think he might be a late 2 Same as Jerome Murphy who he has in the 3rd. McCourty mid 2nd to TB is a mockery, he is a late 1 or early 2.

But thats just my take on his NFC Projections.

Top needs: OT, CB, OLB, ILB, WR, NT, RB, R, S
First round (13, 17): CB Joe Haden, OT Anthony Davis
Second-round (49): WR Mardy Gilyard
Third-round (79): LB Koa Misi
Fourth-round (113): DT Geno Atkins
Summary: San Fran has a need at corner, and Haden is the best one in the draft, regardless of the fact that his stock has taken a hit since the combine. If film were the only measure of performance, he wouldn't escape the top 10. Davis has the skills to become a Pro Bowl left tackle if he can put it all together, and the Niners could solve their hole at right tackle by moving people around. Gilyard is a quarterback's best friend, a guy who is always open and works back to the ball well. Not super-explosive, but dependable. Misi should help with depth early on, and Atkins was hugely productive at Georgia but will need to overcome questions about his size

I'd love this senario!

Agreed
