Sebastian Vollmer was chosen last year by New England Patriot with their 2nd round pick (58th overall). He started 5 games at LT and 3 games at RT. He excelled at both positions. Looks to be a long time starter in the NFL. (He even shut down Dwight Freeney last year from recording a sack.)
He was chosen later because he came from a smaller school (Houston, ConferenceUSA) and was still learning the game… (wasn’t even invited to the NFL Combine).
Who could be this year’s stud OT, either in 2nd or 3rd round, that can shore up our Right Tackle position for years to come? (in case we missed out on our OT in 1st round… which is a definite possibility). Tell us why your hidden gem is going to be a stud!
Here are Vollmer’s measurables:
Height: 6-7 1/2 Weight: 312
College: Houston
Long arms
40 Yrd Dash: 5.13
20 Yrd Dash: 2.90
10 Yrd Dash: 1.77
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 32
Vertical Jump: 36 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'03"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.50
3-Cone Drill: 7.51

Although not a hidden gem, I think Saffold will be very good.

brown will be a first rounder and saffold will go in the first 10 picks of round 2, i think the intent of this thread is to see who will be a sleeper OT who will be around when we pick in round 2 or 3 for that matter, guys going tin the top 40 picks dont classify as sleepers to me

I consider anyone that can perform better than what the scouts are expecting to be a hidden gem. Vollmer was considered a middle round pick by most and experts felt that he was a reach in 2nd round. But guess what... If he performs like a 1st rounder, it was not a reach by any means.

Here is my player: Jared Veldheer (Hillsdale)
Height: 6-8
Weight: 312
40 Yrd Dash: 5.06
20 Yrd Dash: 2.93
10 Yrd Dash: 1.72
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 32
Vertical Jump: 33 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'01"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.51

Wow, 6-8 and 32 reps on the bench, quick 40 time.... very similar numbers to Vollmer. Check out the what the scouts are saying about this guy! (link below)

When I say Brown and Saffold I mean to say I think they'll be even better than the top projected OT. That's what Vollmer ended up being, even better than the top tackles.

Ducasse is a projected 2nd rounder, too. Look in the later rounds to find a gem. I would say :
Zane Beadles, OT from Utah
A tackle who played OG for one year and LT for 3 years for Utah. Perfectly fits a zone blocking scheme and can be a valuable swingman with experience outside and inside. Here are his measurables:
6'4
310 lbs
5.3 40
30 reps
33'3/4 arms

He seems to be a 4th rounder right now, like Vollmer was last year
(Btw - I really wanted Vollmer last year but was very suprised the pats took him in the 2nd. Looked like a reach then, but now we are smarter) ;)

This is the guy I want. He's raw but he has unlimited potential and he's haitian......meaning he's playing for more than the just the love of the game...he's playing to finacially support his people.
