I wouldn't be so sure Carolina will be a top 5 pick they have a tendency to make late runs in the year and with their duel running threat I woudln't be suprised to see them in the middle of the pack by the end of the year. As for Berry or Mays I want a hard hitting safety that will ruin people who dare go accross the deep middle of the field or run down receivers who get past our corners. Taylor Mays fits the bill but I will be honest I would be SO HAPPY if we got either of them!

Berry is better than Mays, but it's really win-win with either of them.
huh? why ur saying berry is better than Mays? come on silly.. I like Mays cuz he is very good to tackle and that he can hit hard make Wr would fear cuz they don't want to hurt it and would not want to catch the ball possible that why. I love Mays but wait and see till finnish whole season.. Berry is good around defense and sometime hit hard. I think, Mays may simlair to Troy Polamalu.. I love Troy Polamalu cuz he is very good to read the defense quick a time and awesome blitz and can hit hard too.. wow.. i wish, Troy Polamalu can became a 49ers..
huh? what do u mean this? are u dislike it or not happy?
Yea as you can see, I gave up on him
are you gave up on him? which is him who? me? or Berry or Mays?

We don't have a shot at Berry, he is top 5 material. Mays is over rated IMO. Mays is a big hitter, but not a playmaker. You don't want to use a high first rounder on a Safety that can't get interceptions. I think Mays will have to move to OLB.
I think we should look at Darrell Stuckey, SS, Kansas. 6-0 205 lbs. 4.5 40.
Stuckey - First Team Big 12 selection as a Junior, 14 career interceptions, versatile, quick, aggressive, high-character guy.

Anyone who thinks Taylor Mays is over rated, 1, hasn't seen him play in person and 2, doesn't understand his role in the offense. I am sure Pete Caroll would tell anyone Mays is the Best player ON HIS TEAM,(and its not even close)

That's my problem. I've been watching USC's defense, waiting for him to show that he's a playmaker. Silly me.

I've seen him play, LIVE, in person, at both the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl
I've lived in SoCal for 18 years and am an avid UCLA football fan and as a result of my environment and the Pac-10, I get my good filling of Pete Carrol whether it be him coming to town to scout our high schools and actually having him field questions or just watching the damn Trojan condoms play on TV every f**kin weekend and being surrounded by their damn fans who must "enlighten" me every weekend of how and why their so great and why each of their highlight plays happens the way it happened...
So now that I'm assuming I've met your requirements, let me throw my 2 cents in to the pot...
f**k Taylor Mays

Forget Eric Berry, we should be looking at Mays. Why? Because unless Carolina wants to loose every game from here on, we won't have any chance at Berry. He's going off the board in the first 5 picks, and there are many many TERRIBLE teams in the NFL this year who will be looking to pick him up. Mark my words, a 3-13 finish may land you outside of the top 5 this year. It's that bad.

he just needs to run a little slower than taylor mays and then we don't have to worry about the raiders picking him!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Raiders taking Mays. Even with Berry on the board

This team has bigger needs than safety, Goldson's had one bad game and we still dont know what we have in Reggie Smith at SS. This team desperately needs a QB who forces defenses to respect a downfield passing attack, and none of these checkdowns or dink and dunks. If not QB, then offensive line which has been terrible all season.

I have watched every game that mays has ever played in at USC either in person or on TV and also understand that during previous years, Mays priorty was to simply keep everything in front of him and allow the other playmakers on defense to gamble...
That being said, his lack of productivity in terms of making plays on the ball is still somewhat alarming. He certainly has all the physical tools, but lacks a bit in terms of instincts for reading the QB.
Berry has him beat in virtually every category and is certainly the better prospect and will most likely be drafted in the top 5 of next years draft - certainly ahead of Mays. In fact, based on productivity, Mays might actually fall to the 2nd round, but his performance at the combine will certainly keep him in the first.
All in all, with the status of Michael Lewis - Mays would make for a perfect fit on our squad as a SS and will certainly boost our coverage ability from the safety positions... But only if he falls to the 2nd round.
My first round selections are reserved for Trent Williams and Jerry Hughes respectively... a bandwagon Ive been driving since the getgo.

Like I've said before, if we're in a position to draft Eric Berry, we cannot pass on him. He is the best player on the board and would clearly be the best safety on our team if we draft him. Yes we need a QB but there is no QB in the first round worth taking especially since we still have Nate Davis. Has everyone forgotten about him all of a sudden? He's got a cannon arm and great accuracy. Isn't that what everyone is asking for? Be patient with him.

How old are you guys? I'm sorry but I know 10 year olds that type in more complete sentences. It's embarassing. I know I'm not supposed to "be mean" to other posters but this is just unreal.
That being said, I saw Mays in person @ Cal the other weekend and definitely wasn't blown away. Sure, he had a pick in the first but I'm pretty sure my black lab coulda intercepted that godawful pass.
