Signing Strategy

IMO, 49ers should have a rule that new contracts have to be completed by the start of free agency. If they don't, they will either look to trade the player, or reduce their offer if they want the player on the team and play hardball. Waiting to sign a player just before training camp gives them the least flexibility. For example, Purdy hasn't signed. By my strategy, the 49ers would have traded him by now, and looked for a QB during free agency (in all fairness, they got his replacement if he doesn't agree to terms in Mac Jones).

Don't like it. With that strategy you would never let the market dictate the players value.
A lot of resignings around the league happen during free agency because teams let the players test the market and when the players do and see what their true value is they either resign with the team or sign a bigger contract with someone else. You'll be missing out on a lot of players.

This strategy sucks! Mac Jones sucks! He couldn't even lift Purdys jock strap. So by this strategy you would lose every free agent the team would ever have. You really don't understand how negotiations work.

Don't see the reason for the strategy and don't see Mac Jones as the #1 QB.

FA is too early. By TC imo. Training camp is when the team and season starts for players and coaches. that's where you put in the work to get ready for a strong season.
now players use contract talks to duck TC, and try to put fear in the club of a holdout or missed games. the team would be wise to say contracts have to wrap by TC. simply refuse to negotiate once TC starts, report on what you got or get fined

That philosophy will burn bridges with players, and John Lynch (a HOF player himself) won't ethically operate in that fashion.
If anything, our contracts have been a bit too generous. We need to refine our valuation approach, but I don't think we need to artificially time box contract discussions.
