Assuming Garoppolo is traded away and Trey Lance becomes the starter, the 49ers will need a backup quarterback behind him. There's quite a few options in free agency and there likely will be some more via trade and possibly the draft. Who would you acquire as a backup quarterback?
Andy Dalton-34 years old, 148 games started
Tyrod Taylor-32 years old, 53 games started
Nick Foles-33 years old, 56 games started, SB winner.
Mitch Trubisky-27 years old, 50 games started
Marcus Mariota-28 years old, 61 games started
Jacoby Brissett, 29 years old, 37 games started
Teddy Bridgewater-29 years old, 63 games started
Ryan Fitzpatrick-39 years old, 147 games started

Brissett or Mariota for the right price, but I think they'll attract decent offers. I'd be good with bringing Nate Sudfeld back, and prioritizing Eric Berriere as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Washington

I'd be okay with Tyrod, I'm probably a bit partial to Dalton due to his extensive experience. He was a starter for nearly a decade and could be a strong voice in Lance's ear, giving him pointers in film study and during games like what Alex tried to do for Kaepernick.
I'm less worried about a backup QB having to play because if Lance is out for any extended period of time then they are most likely screwed no matter who they end up with.

I see what your saying and I wouldn't be mad about Dalton. I do want a mobile QB for what you said but someone who can really get it in Treys head to slide and protect himself. And a QB who grew into more of a pocket passer as he grew in the NFL. I just want to accelerate the calming of Lance in the pocket his happy feet need to go asap. Whichever backup QB can get him to relax if it's Dalton, Taylor or Bridgewater I don't care.

Don't want the backup being better than the starter. Bridgewater, Mariota and Taylor are def better. Be careful here

You sound like a teen girl who didn't get what she wanted, still crying taking Lance over Jones huh?

I'd love Dalton, but thats a high quality backup. Isn't the price like 10 million for a backup of his caliber? Probably similar for Tyrol Taylor. But in a perfect world I'd go with either of those two. Great teammates and can offer a lot to Lance.

I think there has to be some realism here and I get we can disagree.
Dalton is a solid vet and there's value there as a continued mentor to be sure.
Tribusky and Mariota, I don't know. Probably both high character guys and I pretty much know Mariota is. But both probably being still younger would like to find opportunities to start again somewhere. So kind of the same with Brissett and Bridgewater. The only thing is the latter two, at least Brissett understands he's not getting much in the way of starting opportunities.
I went with Taylor as he's a talented enough guy and seems fine doing whatever. If a team wants him to start for a while he'll do that. If they want him as depth he'll do that. But I'd also be fine with Fitzmagic or even Foles as I said. Basically guys who have that veteran experience in the league and if need be can play in a pinch and not hurt you. That's basically been Fitzmagic forever now. But that "forever now" is a concern as he's 39, got injured this past year, and one wonders how much longer he can/wants to play even as a backup.

Yeah, it's hard to say every single one of those guys are better seeing as how they've all had their opportunities and like the criticism with Jimmy aren't getting markedly better after other teams basically said, "thanks but no thanks" as far as them being any kind of long term starter.
Bridgewater is just a guy. Functional, has some talent. A lesser version of Jimmy. There was a stat in which that year in Carolina in 2020 he had 8 opportunities at the end of games to tie/take the lead/win and I believe was literally zero for eight.
Mariota has some physical tools to work with but came from that gimmicky offense at Oregon and never put it together to the Titans liking. He ultimately lost his job to a retread Ryan Tannehill.
Taylor is the best of the three, probably. But he, especially at this stage, doesn't have the take over a game potential that Trey might.

Can we trade for Matty Ice ??
I think he'll be the perfect backup because he knows the offense, Kyle has also blew a big lead w/him before, and he can actually win games for us as a full time starter if needed or if Baby Face just isn't ready..
so, I like Matty Ice FIRST and draft another QB in the later round to be the backup of the future..
2nd - Nick Foles (if Matty isn't there).. Foles will know his role here and will be a very good advisor for young Lance..
3rd - Mariota will also be good because he's still young and will want to prove that he's not a bust if ask to come and play when needed..

We aren't talking about the Patriots. This is a 9ers forum
