Corey Linsley

I know we all want to retain Trent Williams, but he may price himself out of the Niners cap space.

What if a fall back plan was let Williams walk, sign Lindley, and draft Christian Darrisaw or Liam Eichenberg to fill in on the left side? I know plugging in any rookie LT is a big risk, but the focus of this thread is spending on a Pro Bowl OC vs LT.

The top of the OC market is around $12M the top of the LT market is above $20M. That frees up potentially around $6-8M ish to retain players in the secondary, or wherever.

Williams is still top 2-3 LT in the NFL but he will definitely price himself out of the range to be resigned. $22 million will be starting bid for him. Linsley and rookie LT make wayyyyy too much sense for salary cap. Best center and a player on a 5 yr rookie contract will help with resigning another player to fill a void. Not popular with lots of people but it does make sense.

Yeah, would love TW back here for sure. But this is a great plan B.
Please no.
Lindsey will cost too much. He may end up being the highest paid center in the league or at least close to it.

We need bargains

Well, Im not sure if this would or could happen, but that is kind of the point. A Pro Bowl center costs less than a pro bowl LT. Especially if you can draft a blue chip LT like Darrisaw.

Yeah if we get priced out on TW for some reason, gotta have plan b and this one is an option. We can have Mack also and use the money somewhere else if Linsley is too rich. Draft a Center to sit for a year behind him. Many scenarios that is in play just in case TW walks.
I would prefer Mack and a late pick to Linsley.

Woohooo I finally agreed with you on something!!!
Best center in NFL for this system+ good rookie LT + a DE or CB in free agency or Trent Williams and hope that every draft pick pans out. Williams will ne looking at around $22-$24 million per yr. Still has some good yrs ahead but will likely look to cash in and make up for lost yr. Williams will be Emanuel Sanders all over again, 1 yr rental and wasted draft picks. Darrisaw or Vera-Tucker would be best options to allow a veteran DE and or a CB to be signed. Maybe even signing Nick Martin would be possible. Bosa may ask for new contract next yr as well. Sooooooo. Possibly having highest paid LT, DE, and LB in football is probably not possible. Pick ur poison. Trade Bosa or Warner and keeping Williams will still be difficult. Linsley and rookie LT saves around $5 million per yr to carry over for future extensions.
