highest pick they made at Safety has been a 3rd round pick. That's hardly putting any stock at Safety. And the most money they've spent was what $2 mil for Tashaun Gipson.
There's still some pretty solid Safeties on the market I'd love to see him prove me wrong.
Apparently $6.5M a year was too much for Ward. And $13M was too much for Hufanga.
Mustapha is better than Simmons, and last year Hufanga was still on the roster. Heck PFF has Brown better then Simmons last year too.
They have used around 7 picks at safety in 9 years ... and they've been fairly successful at it. They've been good enough at it that I'm okay letting it ride this year if they think they have enough.
The whole defense is being rebooted around Fred, Bosa, and Demo. Just going to have to wait and see.
Ward's contract could've easily been picked up by Lynch but he chooses not to. Hufanga is injury prone and I never expected Lynch to match that one.
Malik Mustapha is good, but knock on wood he isn't injury prone. But better than Simmons, what numbers are you going off of besides numbers that are biased? As for Ji'yair Brown, no way he's better than Justin Simmons, no matter what numbers you choose to fit your narrative, I don't need PFF to tell me he's better. Brown was a huge disappointment last season and I'm not just talking about in coverage, his tackling was horrible to bad angles and was always a step behind.
Successful, WHAT!!! The best Safeties the 9ers have had the last 9 seasons, Lynch managed to draft one in Hufanga. But he was only good with Tashaun Gipson after that his play fell off.
Lynch doesn't put much stock at the Safety position, leave your bias at home. I is what it is.
