Cooper is most likely done. Gabe Davis looked better with Josh Allen then Amari Cooper. I think we should pass on both. Let the young guys get the reps.

I'm for this, I want to see Cowing and the new guys get more reps!

Amari Cooper did better on two teams last season than Gabe Davis did with one. But the 49ers need a veteran right now, just in case the young guys don't look ready.

Bringing Cooper in means you have to cut someone young they like from the 53, and how much is Cooper going to cost?

Why did his play fall off a cliff? Was there a major injury?

It's the same if they brought in Gabe Davis too. At this time of the off season I expect every free agent out on the street to be affordable.

Yes, he's had some injuries but nothing major. Put it this way, I bet he passes a physical.

It's not just the money, they would need to clear a roster spot.
Probably should sign a FA safety
Unless Brown and Pinnock look great in camp
Free Agent Safties

Did anyone predict Ray-Ray McCloud becoming a valued starter for the Falcons? I wonder if Kyle likes the idea of a small quick WR but just can't use them.

Mustapha said he'd be ready ... I expect him to start on IR.

Sigle, Grant, Mahoney, and Johnson are all there to try to take Pinnock and Brown's jobs too.

Besides Sigle, every single one of those Safeties have been subpar. They need to bring in someone that really gives them competition at Safety, like Justin Simmons but Lynch doesn't put much stock at Safety.

So clear a roster spot. They brought in Gabe Davis, they would've had to clear a roster spot had they sign him anyway.

I think Lynch definitely does put stock at safety, he just doesn't have the room to overpay for the play there.

We don't know how any of them will play under Saleh, and other than Pinnock and Grant they are fairly unknown in general.

You don't have to overpay at Safety, for instance Justin Simmons was signed for $5 mill last season. For $5 mil he would've easily been the best Safety on the roster.

highest pick they made at Safety has been a 3rd round pick. That's hardly putting any stock at Safety. And the most money they've spent was what $2 mil for Tashaun Gipson.

There's still some pretty solid Safeties on the market I'd love to see him prove me wrong.

Apparently $6.5M a year was too much for Ward. And $13M was too much for Hufanga.

Mustapha is better than Simmons, and last year Hufanga was still on the roster. Heck PFF has Brown better then Simmons last year too.

They have used around 7 picks at safety in 9 years ... and they've been fairly successful at it. They've been good enough at it that I'm okay letting it ride this year if they think they have enough.

The whole defense is being rebooted around Fred, Bosa, and Demo. Just going to have to wait and see.

Ward's contract could've easily been picked up by Lynch but he chooses not to. Hufanga is injury prone and I never expected Lynch to match that one.

Malik Mustapha is good, but knock on wood he isn't injury prone. But better than Simmons, what numbers are you going off of besides numbers that are biased? As for Ji'yair Brown, no way he's better than Justin Simmons, no matter what numbers you choose to fit your narrative, I don't need PFF to tell me he's better. Brown was a huge disappointment last season and I'm not just talking about in coverage, his tackling was horrible to bad angles and was always a step behind.

Successful, WHAT!!! The best Safeties the 9ers have had the last 9 seasons, Lynch managed to draft one in Hufanga. But he was only good with Tashaun Gipson after that his play fell off.

Lynch doesn't put much stock at the Safety position, leave your bias at home. I is what it is.

"Injury prone" just means after the fact they got injured a lot. Steph Curry was "injury prone" until he wasn't.

Ward was injured regularly too. Hufanga was allowed to leave because he got too much money not because of the injury.

Brown was okay to bad last year, yes, but the fact that PFF has Simmons worse is absolutely indicative of something. Did you watch as much Simmons' play as you watched Brown?

Regardless it certainly appears the 49ers will draft safeties most years and develop them and let them leave as free agents unless they are game changers. I think Lynch realizes the value of the position, he just puts it below corner, and DL on the defensive side.

What "bias"? ... I'm a 49ers fan talking on a 49ers forum ... is THAT the bias you are talking about?
