Not necessarily. Sometimes injuries are just a case of bad luck. Just as you'll have guys that are lucky enough to avoid injuries, you're going to have those who get injured frequently, randomly. Some people never get into car accidents, other people will get into several that they didn't actually cause. Most people will never be struck by lightning, there's an unfortunate small number that will get hit multiple times.
I think with Hurd, you can't have any expectations but you hope that maybe his injury woes are behind him and that he can be a healthy asset to this team going forward. Certainly don't bet on it but it wouldn't be the most unusual thing for him to get over his streak of injuries. Tyrann Mathieu is a guy that comes to mind that had some crazy injury troubles early on his career who has seemingly gotten past them.
Sure, a car accident could be bad luck. But the more accidents you are in, the more likely you are to be in another. Take a person with a perfect driving record and 0 accidents, and another that has been in 4 accidents, and who are you betting on to be accident free for the next 10 years. The person with 0 because they are due for one, or the person with 4 because they have a history? Might be their driving style, might be a curse, maybe their daily route is more accident prone. We don't know the reasons. Might not be their fault, but come on we are betting on the latter.
Doesnt mean it will happen. I'm not saying Hurd is done. Yeah, you can probably find 100 players that missed consecutive years and came back. And thats obviously the hope with Hurd. But just as there is a honey badger story, you also get stories like the Broncos RT Jawuan James news today. And countless other busts, the flame out of the league due more to injuries than talent.
