Ya, I agree. It's becoming apparent that this front office has specific tastes and a preference for homegrown talent.
I think they call that being cheap....

I don't know if it's being cheap or leaving space for someone they feel will be a real difference maker. This team needs some upgrades. Overpaying Irvin (which is what the Raiders did) doesn't make sense in the long run. It really is just a band-aid for a lost season.

Sad as this sounds, the 49ers can only hurt themselves by signing a guy on the downside of his career unless its a JJ Watt where the downside will have a couple of years of continued top 10 performance.

Maybe just maybe, players prefer to play somewhere else? Ever think of that?

Of course not that would make too much sense. Players don't have choices and decisions to make, they also don't have families and hometowns they are robots they do what they're told!!!

Whatever the reason is, I'm glad they missed on this one.

I think irving is better than Marsh, Thomas, and AA on the edge in passing downs.

Could have claimed him and then cut him in the offseason if it didn't work out. It's not like we don't have money to spend.

Tough to justify bringing him in for $9 mil when he has the same amount of production as Marsh.

Are we talking just this season? Because he has 40 career sacks and was coming off an 8 sack season last year. Marsh on the other hand has 9.5 Career sacks. But then again....

He has also been terrible this season.

Pete Carroll didn't seem to think so...

I think a lot of the issues he and other "star" players in Oakland have suffered from this season are all tied to Chucky learning how to coach again.

Feel the same way.

It's sad that 2 of the most optimistic posters are starting to get fed up. With the amount of slack the front office has taken even if it's just questions from reporters asking them when they are going to address needs, like pass rusher, they are so pressured to make it happen this year in free agency.

I am sure they will get a pass rusher like graham and then double down in the draft. If not I don't know what to say.

Difficult to judge. Irving hasn't played much this year and Gruden decided towards a youth movement. Irving can play strong side LB which can help us with an often injured LB corp as well as trying out irving as a pass rusher instead of having Thomas or AA rotating in at the edge on passing downs.
