I think he'll be cut by Saturday and put on the practice squad. Basically had no time to impress in practice and earn reps in front of Jeremy McNichols, Raheem Mostert or Jeff Wilson.

Why sign him to a three year deal, then.

From DraftAnalyst:

Bio:
Three-year starter who was named GNAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2017. Led the conference with 206 carries, 1,322 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 212 yards and two TDs while returning two kickoffs for scores as a senior. Earned First Team All-GNAC honors and rushed 249 times for 1,300 yards and 18 touchdowns while making 42 catches for 324 yards and one score in 2016. Led Division II in rushing with 2,266 yards and 25 touchdowns on 337 carries as a sophomore. Earned Second Team All-GNAC honors as a true freshman and carried 88 times for 607 yards and eight TDs.

Pos:
Creative ball carrier with a versatile game. Patient, waits for blocks to develop and quickly finds running lanes. Quick-footed, runs with good lean and shows burst. Bounces around piles and creates yardage. Solid pass catcher out of the backfield who is very effective after the catch.

Neg:
Lacks the speed to beat defenders into the open field or run to daylight. Timid blocker. 4.58 40

Analysis:
Gardner was very productive at the small-school level and has enough ability to line up as a situational back at the next level if he performs well on special teams.

For an OZ run game, being able to read well and make quick cuts, he has something to offer. Also, being a good receiver out of the backfield appeals to Kyle.

PS material.

He's here to take a meaningless game beating, and then he is gone. Not bad work if you can get it.

Highschool pic...
Baldinger says he will be the starter on opening day!
I find these signings interesting. Why not give Mcnichols, Wilson, and Mostert the carries? Not like they are getting paid a lot so injury payout shouldnt matter.

5'5" 201lbs. This kid is thick. Runs a little like Gore with good patience, vision, and cut back ability. Also like Gore, lack break away speed.

Would love to see a Humboldt State guy on the team, hope he makes it to the PS. I really wanted to draft Cappa this year too.
