How much should Lynch overpay FAs?

It's about what it takes to compete with lower cost markets. Athletes deserve to get market value but if one team is in a market that has a large Cost of Living advantage over another, the higher cost team will have to "overpay" in order to get the player.

Yes, the player will get a big chunk of change, however, in a professional with such a short shelf life, signing a contract with a 15% lower net value does not make sense.

maybe a Cost of Living Index supplement??

A player can somewhat avoid the cost of living as can the team, but state taxes can not be.

And i think state tax percentage is the way to go.

True, they will have some latitude, however, in order to get into a significantly lower housing/cost of living area, a player would have to live on the east side of the Altamont pass. The Livermore corridor is not much cheaper than the San Jose area. Unfortunately, the commute time would make locating in the Mountain House/Tracey area unworkable.

There's no reason for them to live near the facilities. It's not they work a normal 9-5 job.

The problem of commute time is still going to come up at some point.

To another poster: Any attempt to adjust state income taxes to accommodate millionaires is not going to get past the receptionist. If Jed wants to keep the team in this state he is going to have to be resigned to paying up to 15% more than other teams.

This sort of thing is a big reason why Canadian baseball teams get screwed over in fa. None of the players want to go up there and pay the high taxes they have there. Can you imagine how hard it will be to field a competitive fb team in London?

There is give and take though with CA. You get taxed but you live in some of the nicest, most buzzing cities in America with some of the best weather in the world.
