How much should Lynch overpay FAs?

Much has been said locally and across the nation about the fact that the 49ers have paid more than many thought they should for the FAs they have signed. While those things are somewhat subjective, there is one thing that is not subjective and that is the added cost of living here in the Bay Area as compared to other areas with NFL teams. In order to give a better idea how much more Lynch would have to pay FAs to come here versus other areas, here is a breakdown of state income taxes, overall state cost of living and cost of living by urban area. State income taxes - highest to lowest CA - 13.3% MN - 9.85% WI - 9% NY - 8.8% GA & MO - 6% NC - 5.5% IL & OH - 5% AZ - 4.5% MI - 4.3% PA - 3% WA, TX, FL, NV - 0% - 7 teams once the Raiders move to Vegas will have a 13.3% advantage over SF. IOW, Lynch will have to overpay by AT LEAST 13.3%, plus COL difference just to break even. _________________ Statewide cost of living - those in top 10 only listed NY - #2 CA - 3 MA - 4 NJ - 7 ________________ Cost of living by urban area (top 10 only) NYC - #1 SF - 2 San Jose - 7 Orange County (LA) - 9 Washington DC - 10 We will never know how much was offered to those who did not come, but we should pump the brakes a little bit when looking at the contracts that have been signed before we say they were overpaid.

California teams should be allowed to have a higher salary cap , relative to taxes. It's an unfair advantage that other teams get

PA teams have a roughly 17 million dollar cal avantage over us

Agreed. I found out if I want to move to a different state where cost of living is less that Massachusetts my company would adjust my salary(work from home) which is BS.

Salary cap is clearly not the same everywhere and NFL should account for that.

Are we talking about the salray of vendors? Grounds crew? Ushers? Security? Etc.... or are we talking about the salary of MULTIMILLION dollar athletes? I think theyll be just fine.

It's about what it takes to compete with lower cost markets. Athletes deserve to get market value but if one team is in a market that has a large Cost of Living advantage over another, the higher cost team will have to "overpay" in order to get the player.

Yes, the player will get a big chunk of change, however, in a professional with such a short shelf life, signing a contract with a 15% lower net value does not make sense.

Good point . Fair comparison.

Gonna be hard to compete with the raiders when they're in Vegas which has no income tax . We gotta pay a guy 22.6 mil to match Raiders paying a guy 20 mil. To make up for the 13 percent state tax.

Wow I didn't know New York was only 8.8%. I thought they would be second highest, isn't cost of living pretty damn high there too?

yeah this was an underrated factor. i really think they should address that. maybe a separate salary cap for teams that live in higher taxed states?

By the data above, NY is #2 statewide and NYC is #1 most expensive urban area.

Cost of living should not have any adjustments, But state taxes should.

A player can somewhat avoid the cost of living as can the team, but state taxes can not be.

And i think state tax percentage is the way to go.
