Jerick McKinnon

If we sign him, what happens to Breida? IMO, they would fill the same role on offense, and neither is a three down back.

We don't need a 3-down back. But, I'd say they both can do everything except short yardage situations. That's not really their forte.

Kyle is going to give his guys 10-15 carries. We don't necessarily need a workhorse to tote the ball 20+ times.

Kinnon adds speed and most importantly, he's a nice receiver. That'll help Jimmy and the offense especially on 3rd downs. It sure beats seeing Hyde catch the ball and get tackled before he could even turn up field.

For what it's worth, I think we'll draft a guy. McKinnon the only FA RB that caught my eye as a fit. If we add him, great! That's one less draft pick we can spend somewhere else.

Just like the Richburg signing. We saved a pick on a center too. Every player we sign as a real contributor is one less pick we have to expend during the draft. We gain the flexibility to take BPA over needs and/or the ability to trade up for better players.

Juice is a solid short yardage option if we need, but I could also get behind signing Frank to a cheap deal to finish out here and play the Legarett Blount role you saw in the Philly back field last year.

We need to see the gaurantees
49ers agreed to terms with RB Jerick McKinnon, formerly of the Vikings, on a four-year, $30 million contract.

That $7.5 million average makes McKinnon the league's fourth-highest-paid running back. Our own Evan Silva labeled McKinnon a "poor man's Alvin Kamara" as an in-space playmaker who can run it and catch it. McKinnon doesn't turn 26 until May and has an upward-pointing arrow coming off a career year and joining one of the league's most exciting offensive play-callers in coach Kyle Shanahan. McKinnon totaled 991 yards and five touchdowns last season and is now penned in as the Niners' top back after Carlos Hyde signed with Cleveland.

Nice! I'm excited to see what he can do in this offense!
