How so. Every time he's played us, he looks like a star. He's a top 25 player in his position according to PFF. Sounds like he's had some injury issues in the past, but between this year and his rookie year he looks like a great young player. I'd be stoked with his signing and think he should be one of our top targets when FA opens.
Because he's never been consistent. And playing well against us is not only a small sample size...our WRs aren't exactly the best barometer for excellent CB performance.
Moreover -- this guy never gets INTs. I'm sure he can string together a couple solid games. But that doesn't make a #1 CB. I think people are looking at him with fan goggles on. He's getting hyped simply because he's a shiny object not on our roster. MAYBE he's worth a 1-year prove it deal. But I can't imagine anybody making a solid case that this is the dude who deserves #1 CB money.

There's some risk, but the reward is also very high. He's gotten an average of just under 3 INTs per year, so it's not like he never gets them. Sounds like his side of the field is quiet this year, aside from maybe a game or two. I'd happily take that kind of consistency for a discount from top dollar CB contract.
Here's an article from last year http://www.espn.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4704575/kyle-fuller-bears-latest-draft-disappointment
He was not just bad...but perhaps among the NFL's worst CBs up until this year. Abysmal in every facet. And this year? He's had a few solid games. Nothing spectacular. Which, I'm sure in comparison, looks great. He also is just another defensive back that Fangio has made money for. We saw this exact same thing play out with Whitner and Goldson...among others.
The Niners have legitimate playoff hopes in 2018. I think they have many, many better options for a starting CB than Kyle Fuller.

Saying he's had a couple good games this year is undervaluing his year, just as claiming the rest of his career has been abysmal. That is simply hyperbole. He's had ups, downs, injuries, and scheme/style-of-play changes until this year where he's been consistently good. He's only 25. I just think he's the kind of kid that's going to put it together for the next phase of his career and provide tremendous value for that team. If we start being the team that goes after every shiny toy in FA we are going to be in cap hell by the time we need to resign our own young stars.
On the right contract -- would happily accept any player. If he costs less than $4M I'd love to have him on a one-year prove it deal.

Definitely generally sucks as a starter. But need guys like this in your CB rotation as injuries happen. Can put together a few good games until the starter returns.

In 15 starts this season he has recorded 67 tackles, 24 pass deflections and two interceptions. Fuller is currently tied with Jacksonville's A.J. Bouye for the second-most pass deflections this year at 24, just behind Detroit's Darius Slay's 30.
According to Pro Football Focus, Fuller has played a team-high 536 snaps at cornerback this season. He's been targeted 113 times, allowing just 57 catches with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Opposing quarterbacks are recording just a 68.8 rating when throwing in his direction this season.

Fuller is in my top 3 for cb targets this offseason! I like Johnson from the Rams, Butler from Pats, and Fuller from Bears! Of the 3 I think Fuller is the better playmaker! He's aggressive and jumps routes!

He's a slightly an above avg. Corner. We need 2/3 corners, no depth and need a vetern opposite Witherspoon. Who would you sign?
