This. Silver and Miss Cleveland both confirmed that there were serious negotiations going on.

I think the Browns are reeling a bit with news that Kaepernick isnt so interested in going there and his refusal to restructure how they like so they are backing off.

I agree with kap as the reason for the stall. Is anybody else reminded of a 18 year old kid throwing attitude, threatening to leave but when you sincerely show them the door, they shut their mouth? Just like 80% of kids with attitudes, kap will realize he really wants to leave and will take the pay cut. It's up to him to take the pay cut and leave. The 49ers owe him nothing, it would be absurd to ask them to take less compensation for him via the broncos.

Yeah I think the Browns are crazy to even think that he would play for that on their current team lol. Money ball is getting a rude awaking to the NFL. Players can get hurt and out of football on every single play...they need to make as much cash a possible...baseball players arent in that same type of situation.

If we cut him he's getting that $11.9 million for this year anyway...there is no way we are cutting him.

In kap's world, it is better for him to pass a physical by the 1st so the 49ers can cut him clean. I agree that kap wont get cut, it doesn't make any sense for the 49ers to cut him at any point this season.

Not true. The team saves $11.9 million by cutting him prior to April 1st. That's his base for 2016 and is guaranteed if he's on the roster on April 1st.

Only if he passes his physical which he most likely won't by 4/1.

Either way, the team can cut him prior to April 1st and save that money. Nothing I've seen, read, or heard says otherwise. If you have something that says that we have to pay him regardless, please provide link.

Yup I highly doubt they cut him even if he somehow passes his physical prior to 4/1...they have a crap ton of money even with him on the books and they can still trade him at any point...a team could lose a QB in training camp or miss out on the QB they wanted to draft etc.

Hell he might even talk to chip and realize that staying makes the most sense for him this year.

With kaps money and Blaine combined we still are at the bottom as far as starting QB money goes.

Can't cut him if he is injured.
Injury cause
We're going to be horrible next year so there's absolutely no reason to just cut Kap. I'm all for taking a 3rd rounder for him but if we don't get it the Broncos, Browns, Jets can enjoy the other QB's out there. The one absolute in this should be that Kap 100% will not be cut

It's not either way though lol he can't be cut if he doesn't pass a physical period...his recovery has a time table of 4-6 months and by all reports he's not gonna pass it in 2 in a half weeks. Once 4/1 happens he gets that cash, they can cut him once he passes the physical but will be on the books for the money...Kap does need to report to camp and participate just like any other player in order to get that cash.

http://espn.go.com/blog/san-francisco-49ers/post/_/id/16140/is-colin-kaepernick-finished-playing-for-49ers

timetable for recovery from the surgery is generally four to six months. If he is not fully recovered, the Niners would be on the hook for the $11.9 million owed Kaepernick, per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan."

"Still, Kaepernick would have to pass a physical in order for the Niners to cut him. So it behooves Kaepernick to be healthy by March 9, unless he prefers to stick with the Niners at $11.9 million."

Totally agree!...there is no reason to cut him at all.
My point wasn't that we should. It's that if he was trying to sign a new deal elsewhere, he's not going to get what he wants salary wise. Teams don't think hes worth the price. That should be clear to him by now.
