No one is getting that far down the road. We are talking about what is going to happen before the April 1st deadline.

1. He first needs to pass a physical before anything can go down.
2. If he can't then the 49ers need to make a choice to have an $11.9m possible backup or cut him and owe him nothing.
3. There is never a guar.

None of his injuries are considered difficult to heal or have a high degree of complications. No reason to think he wont be fully healthy by June.

49ers cant cut him prior to April 1st without working out an injury settlement which would be a large chunk of money.

At this point there is absolutely no reason to cut him before Apr 1st.

The Kap deal is going to take awhile. Time to focus on what it is going to take to get Wilkerson from the Jets. 2nd rounder? A 3rd and one of our Safeties? Swap 1st round picks? Kap and a 3rd? I hope they are at least exploring this trade.

.

Any team can waive it if their doctors expect a quick and full recovery.

not the way it's posted on his contract

If they cut him before April 1st they would only owe him some of his back bonus money. They would save over $9m on this years cap by cutting him before April 1st.
some players to check out: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2624264-nfl-free-agents-2016-best-players-available-at-each-position-after-day-4/page/2

Alfred Morris, RB, Washington Redskins

At 5'10", 224 pounds, Alfred Morris has been one of the most efficient backs in the NFL since entering the league in 2012. He began his career with 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sixth-round pick. Since then, his numbers have dipped every season, and he seems to have lost some quickness.

Morris is only 27 and should benefit from a better offensive line than what Washington had in 2015. A zone-blocking team with another quality option to relieve pressure off Morris would be his best fit.

Geoff Schwartz, OG, New York Giants

Once a big free-agent signee, 29-year-old Geoff Schwartz is back on the market. Numerous injuries have accumulated since his last free-agent go-around. He hasn't finished a 16-game schedule since 2013 and has only done so twice since 2009. That being said, Schwartz is a very good guard who can slide out to tackle if need be. He's a great athlete who was impactful whenever he was on the field.

Junior Galette, OLB, Washington Redskins

Once considered a top pass-rusher for the New Orleans Saints, Junior Galette hit the free-agent market as damaged goods with a high ceiling. He tore his Achilles last fall before ever logging a snap for the Washington Redskins. He's able to fit a 3-4 or 4-3 defense and is talented when he's healthy, but that's a significant injury to overcome.

Nolan Carroll, CB, Philadelphia Eagles

The best press cornerback still on the market is Nolan Carroll. The Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles are now in the mix to re-acquire the 29-year-old, according to Tim McManus of 97.5 The Fanatic. He's an average starter but should be a bargain signing, given the impact he can bring.

Patrick Robinson, CB, San Diego Chargers

San Diego Chargers cornerback Patrick Robinson is looking to find a long-term contract after putting together a solid 2015 campaign. The 28-year-old would bring speed and decent size to a secondary that utilizes off-man and zone concepts. According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, he received interest from teams such as the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears earlier in the week.

and yes don't forget

Greg Hardy, DE, Dallas Cowboys

A troubled but talented defensive end, Greg Hardy will be a fascinating individual to watch during free agency. He's supremely talented and only 27, but he comes with a history of domestic abuse and locker-room issues. His reputation and personality could keep him on the market for a while. He'll be an instant-impact starter if he does sign somewhere.

Aldon Smith, LB, Oakland Raiders

Possibly the best player on the free-agent market is linebacker Aldon Smith. Unfortunately, he was suspended for one year due to substance-abuse issues. The talented pass-rusher will turn 27 in September and cannot be reinstated until November, so it's unlikely he'll find a new team or re-sign with the Oakland Raiders until then.

That would apply if he was healthy and able to pass a physical prior to April 1st. They would be on the hook for the rest of his actual signing bonus and nothing more which would be a $5-6 mil hit.

Since he is injured and wont be healthy prior to April 1st, they would have to reach an injury settlement with him in addition to the signing bonus dead money hit.

But he most likely wont be able to pass a physical by then so its a moot point.

If they cut him, he will cost them a lot of money, if they keep him, he will cost them a lot of money so they may as well wait for some team to get really desperate.

Matt Barrows just said it shouldn't be a big deal for him to pass a physical.
That was #1. thing to start with pass the physical.

YOU said there was NO REASON to cut him. There are about $9m reason to cut him.

The 49ers could keep him past April 1st. Pay the $11.9m then trade him and have the new team take over the contract.

No team is going to do that clearly because Kap won't take half or he would be a Brown already.
