Allows I'm saying, let's wait and see because baalke has had a track record of grabbing some quality players on mangable deals day 2, 3 and so on. Outside of last year of course.

You all just want immediate satisfaction, when in reality These day 1 deals don't work out great often, and are albatrosses for the future. Let's wait and see who we grab. As I said, free agency isn't a one day event.

This place has had the Annual Day 1 of Free Agency Freak Out back before I even posted here and was just lurking.

This is just par for the course every year.

For Sure. Remember the melt down after Philly 'killed us' in FA and landed Nnaamndi for a huge deal and we had to settle for Rogers. LOL half the zone thought Philly would win the SB bwahahaha

People can't be rationalized with. Patience isn't a strong virtue this time of year.

You know how some women are teetering between normal and crazy but have that one crazy friend who gives them advice that makes them think the crazy ideas are the rational ones? That's what it's like reading these dudes' posts consecutively.

f**kin LOLOLOLOLOLOL. I used the crazy girlfriend analogy earlier in this thread. Great minds think a like.
It's frustrating to not sign the big name guys but we've seen teams go all in in free agency and not improve at all then see some of those same guys cut a couple of years later.

I wish we signed some of those guys who got deals today to help out our OL. Alex Mack and Jeff Allen were two of my favorites. Malik Jackson would be great to have here.

But some of those contracts that got handed out are just crazy and free agency is almost as tough as the draft sometimes. Yes you have a proven player who you know can play at this level but how will that player deal with the big contract? Will he earn every penny like a Justin Smith? Or will he turn into an Albert Haynesworth?

How about the guys going to a new scheme? How about going to a team with lesser talent around you? Different QB/coach...etc

We all want a roster full of all pros but it's unrealistic.

Our team right now unfortunately is in a state of limbo. I'm sure if this was 2013 and we had all this cap room it would be very different as we'd be a prime destination for players. We have to prove ourselves again. We have question marks at the biggest position in the game.

I think this will be another offseason of thrifty spending by Baalke with maybe one big contract on a proven player.

Of course Baalke has to make sure he can recreate the magic of that 2011 offseason as far as free agent bargains go and not the disaster we saw last offseason.

If we do things right next years free agency will be a bit more involved for us early on IMO.

Pat Kirwin explained how you can use your cap space on good players in a smart way. Throwing a few million more at a pro bowler is better than wasting those millions on a bunch of maybes. There's a balance between the draft and FA and we have none of it.

0 Pro Bowl appearances combined among the 4 highest paid FA's this year.

It's just an example lol

He also said it makes no sense not to use your cap space.

You mean like over spending for Justin Smith who never went to the pro bowl with the Bengals? It is all a crap shoot, but scheme fit and desire once the player gets a big pay check plays a large role in their future.

It is definitely a crap shoot. For every Justin Smith, there are a bunch of busts (see: Nate Clements, Gabe Wilkins, Jonas Jennings, Antonio Langham, etc.).

LOL. The "Dream Team".
Lance Dunbar coming for a visit!

The Kansas City Star's Terez Paylor reports the Chiefs "are making a strong push" to re-sign free agent CB Sean Smith.

Oakland is also interested after striking out on Janoris Jenkins. Arguably the best corner left on the market, Smith will try to goad the teams into a bidding war. The Chiefs pass defense was a mess early, but it solidified after Smith returned from a three-game suspension.

So which guy that just got signed is going to be Justin Smith?

If we walk away from this with no real OL help would you be ok with that? I have no problem over spending on an OL if it keeps the QB alive for 16 weeks. If we are supposed to be transforming into an Offensive first system, we need the players to do it. If only 2-3 fit the bill, go after them hard.
