Yeah, got a point, but I don't think Smelter is going to break through with us. He needs to move on.

As the 5th or 6th WR I don't see the issue with keeping him around. He has the size you can't teach

I can live with him as the 5th or 6th receiver, I just had higher hopes for him.

Stop the HATE,Smelter is here to stay, He`s healed and now has a legit chance and he has been very Solid in traiining camp, plus he`s a trucker when it comes to blocking....He will be on the team.

Who is he beating out? I don't think there are going to be more than 6 WRs kept for the 53.
I'd rather see Bolden make the team.

Bolden is only gonna make the team if he beats out Kerley, Taylor, or Robinson. We have an abundance of small speedy guys, we need a couple of bigger guys to make the contested catches.

And there is where Smelter comes in,wait till the preseason games starts we will see Smelter cut out his Niche.

Kendrick Bourne has size as well...he looks like a better route runner that can get off the line quicker than smelter. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the UDFA WR make the final roster though

Smelter is an inch taller and 25 pounds heavier than Bourne so I'm not sure you can say they are equal. If Smelter is finally healthy I could see him getting the nod but if they have any question about his health he should be cut. Just can't keep guys around who are consistently injured--see Ellington.

Never said they were equal I said borne has size as well, especially compared to our other WRs.

May the best man win, I wouldn't be surprised if neither guy makes the squad

I think Shanahan values separation skills over size at the WR position.
I liked him. Oh well.

We already have 600 of those guys...now he's looking for the outside skill set that comes with size. That's a different skill set altogether. Ideally you have all 3 kinds of ideal skill sets at the X,Y and Z.

Agree totally!

Smelter is making the team imo. Keep Garçon, Goodwin, Taylor, Robinson and Smelter. I can honestly see Trent beating out Kerley for a spot.

Very possible, he could be the 6th WR

If he does something on special teams then he's probably making the team. Special teams could use size and speed and the little speed guys are going to be the single returner.
