Tom Gamble, former Assistant GM

This hiring has got to count for something. Clearly it's not as bad as the media would like to portray it.

Last time I checked the media doesn't line up at the line of scrimmage. Players play coaches coach.

True. But we do pretty good with drafting and contract negations. This hire should restore some of the lost credibility after the coaching hires. Not all but some.
For those that haven't seem this already: From TK "The Tom Gamble hire is good for Baalke. Good for Tomsula. Good for the team. One step."

This. If even Kawakami can't hate on the move, you know its a good one.

Baalke = gone

Unlikely since Baalke likely hired Gamble.

Likely, as this turn of events isn't at all what was intended three weeks ago. The most blunder filled front office putsch in recent memory. Horribly miscalculated and Baalke knows it. Or, this was the jed plan all along -- hire coaches with a budget of $3.76 and Ballke is not gonna stick around to give back change. Either way dude is gone and he has just padded his resume by inventing a transition plan with gamble. The next boss-to-be gotta be impressed.

Jed ain't getting rid of a top five talent evaluator and strategist. It won't happen. The coach will be fired first
How long was he on the Niners staff before?

Which key players has he helped drafting?

Yeah if you want to count drafting linebackers hes top 5.Other than that he seems like a average gm to me.
I don't know that much about Tom Gamble, he's been behind the scenes. It's reached the point where anything of a positive nature concerning hirings is like a breakthrough. Things will calm down and we'll see early on next season if this works out. The players have not changed.

I disagree. If you claim that he's average, name about 10 to 15 GM's that have had a better track record than he has since 2010.

49ers have done a good job drafting, anyway that you want to look at it in comparison with the rest of the teams in the NFL.

Only by ridiculous Madden standards have they done a poor job.

Baalke has a chance to bat .800 in the 2014 draft...Thomas, Acker and Millard are all NFL level talents. Ramsey is as well but not expecting much given his injury history. Reaser is a wild card.

Regardless...if none of them make it...Baalke still hit on 7 of 12 picks and if the trio of Thomas, Acker and Millard make it that's 10 of 12. That is impressive no matter which way you slice it.

Couple that with the fruits of the 11 and 13 draft...this is a solid, young nucleus in San Francisco.
