Stevie Johnson Thread (signed with SD)

I was excited but then I remembered that Roman is still the OC, does he even have a 3 receiver set in the playbook?
Buffalo is so stupid, their only good player on offense LMAO

Johnson isn't really that vertical threat guy we needed so badly....he runs a 4.6 40. He had three straight 1000 yds seasons, and only fell short on a 4th because he missed 4 games last season. His production seems consistent though, but his best years might be behind him. I figure his production will drop drastically here though.

Not bad -aren't we paying Boldin 6 mil a season?

Yeah pretty much so.

This likely ends Crabtree's stay in SF.

I'm not so sure. Isn't it easy to get out of Boldin's contract after this year? If Boldin hits the decline hord and Crabs isn't asking for the moon, I think Boldin could be cut to facilitate resigning Crabs. Regardless, this isn't a good sign for Crabs, our brass probably has a good feel how far off they are with him and are looking to the future for cheaper options. Well done FO.

This could be a message to Crabtree as well - "either get your demand in line with the cap or go shop yourself somewhere else."

Crabtree is a good receiver but not unique. It is easier to replace a guy like him than a good deep threat. Johnson may turn out to be a Crabtree replacement which would leave money for a deep threat. Gonna get real about 4:00 today. At the very least this sets up Baalke to go BPA/value with the next 5 picks.

Wonder if people are still going to cry that Baalke does nothing in FA. It's precisely maintaining the flexibility that allows you to make moves like this that allows smart GM's to succeed.

Sitting back after the FA craze and waiting for the draft where teams needs change, patient and calculated. Yet we still have all of our picks today and can easily use these picks to add depth or add picks next season. I think we try to pick up a 3rd at least next season just to offset the trade.

Sherman can't cover 3 studs lolol , i believe we will use may 3-4 WRs sets this year.

They just drafted Sammy Watkins...Plus C.J. Spiller is pretty darn good.

Plus, we can cut/trade/resign Johnson after this year as his cap number escalates. We will have the choice of resigning Crabs and/or Johnson based on production and salary demands.

Hopefully Crabs doesn't ask for the moon (unlikely) and we resign him at a fair, but team friendly number and we can restructure Johnson after this year. If they are both playing like pro bowlers, we don't need Boldin and we can pay them. If not, either cut them or get them for a better number.

Now we have options. Three solid to great vet WRs and we can keep/pay whomever earns it.

As a #3 he won't put up 1,000 yards but Crabs is signed through this year and Boldin only one more season. I mean when we lost Crabs last season our passing game suffered, praying that we don't suffer another such injury but if we do now we have someone who is more than capable of coming in and producing. Johnson gets separation, not all deep threats are burners (Marshall and Jeffrey in Chicago). I do think we will get a smaller burner-type but we have so many picks coming up, that's the beauty.

Yeah, but Watkins hasn't caught a pass yet in the NFL (though I expect him to be very good, nothing is a sure thing), and CJ can't carry the load at RB and as a receiver and stay healthy.
