When they extended Tom they knew Jimmy's contract would come up before Tom goes leading to the need for a new backup/ future qb. Brisset becomes the new Jimmy.

Because they'd have to throw a franchise tag on him to keep him since Brady isn't retiring soon. It wouldn't make sense to pay two QBs that much.

They also draft guys early and flip them for picks.

Because of all teams they understand the importance of having a good QB on board. They've been drafting QBs every few years to ensure they don't have a dud as a backup in case Brady ever gets hurt/falls off.

Brady hasn't shown any signs of slowing down so they see the writing on the wall...Jimmy will need to be traded and another backup will be needed. It's smart planning.

They can now groom Brissett to be the heir to Brady but if Tom keeps playing the way he has I'm sure in 2 years or so they'll draft another QB early in the process.

As good as Jimmy looks in practice they'd never know what they have in him in situations that Brady has consistently shown to be above everyone else.

they don't need to franchise him if he wants to stay, I'm sure JG would wait 2 years to take over

its called a big board. and when your the pats you continue to take bpa regardless of position. so to them jimmy g was basically the best player in the 2nd round. If anyone would like to show me film showing Jimmy can't ball out.... Ill wait.
"They've tried to create a cottage industry around their backup quarterbacks and failed, wasting too many picks in the process. "

"This obviously isn't the first time a Patriots backup has been rumored to be on the trading block. Ever since Bill Belichick turned to Tom Brady during the 2001 season and came away with a Hall of Fame quarterback, there's been a certain mystic quality attached to the quarterbacks playing behind Brady. Every time the Patriots draft or identify a quarterback to play behind their incumbent, speculation immediately arises that this is some brilliant move by Belichick to create a tradable asset. Then, when the rumors eventually arise, the backup is somehow more valuable than he was when the entire league passed on him multiple times in the draft because he's spent years learning at the right hand of Brady."

And those articles were before Brissett and Garoppolo were being discussed.

Seen by many around the league as a coach in the making, McCown swatted down the idea that Garoppolo is simply the latest Brady understudy to be overvalued by teams desperate for a consistent starter. He sees no comparison with Matt Cassel, who netted a second-round pick from the Chiefs in 2009.

"When you turn on the tape, one has an elite skill set and one doesn't," McCown said. "I like Matt and he's a pro quarterback, but Jimmy has a chance to be elite."

All these people saying Jimmy Garopollo is good clearly don't know as much as someone posting on a forum.

lmao. You can't bring anyone else into a conversation about jimmy g. He is not anyone.else. He has a different brain, a different arm, a different body. Jimmy G was a great college player. Broke records, broke tony romo's records. the only reason he was a second rounder was because of a small school.

PS. All these people who dont think SCRUBisky has the biggest bust potential in this draft don't know anything either.
