I expect Fangio to see if Nnamdi is up to press-covering whoever is the opposition's tallest receiver. For example, I won't be surprised if Nnamdi is on Sidney Rice grabbing him at the line and just harassing the hell out of him on every play when they play the Seahawks. In fact, I won't be surprised if they try to do the same thing to Rice that the Hawks oversized corners do to our receivers - test the refs by grabbing and jabbing past the 5 yard line. It might be Harbaugh's plan to see if he can force the issue that way because he has complained that Sherman and Browner pretty much do it on every play as a coverage technique almost challenging the refs to call it on every play. If the refs call it on Nnamdi, it will set a precedent and they'll pretty much have to call it on Sherman. That's how I'm hoping they use Nnamdi.
Interesting take. This makes the signing even better. Now if we can draft Amerson and have Nnamdi mentor him our secondary will be one step closer to dominance.
This is just what I would like to see as a strategy. We all know Harbaugh has had a real problem with Browner and Sherman using illegal contact as a constant coverage strategy, the thinking being that if they just do it every play, they're daring the refs to call it every play, which the refs don't want to do, especially in Seattle. So, if Fangio has Nnamdi do the exact same thing, it might put the refs in an untenable position and if they call it on him, they'll have to call it on Sherman and Browner. And, if they start calling it on Sherman and Browner, you're going to see their effectiveness heavily drop off because they're too big to move with quicker cuts without using that tactic - that's why you hardly ever see corners their size. I'm hoping that we see Nnamdi locked up on Sidney Rice, who is their tallest receiver at 6'4". I'd like to see him grabbing Rice at the line and then progressively grabbing him farther and farther down field just to see if he can push the envelope the way Sherman and Browner do.
By the way, this all assumes that Harbaugh and Baalke won't get anywhere with their film of the tactic for the NFL during the off-season. It's always possible that Harbaugh WILL actually be able to make a case and the refs will start looking for it and call it to put an end to Sherman and Browner tactics right off the bat.
