Ricardo Lockette thread

Although I will say this. Other teams wanted to pick him off the PS and he chose to stay, which is pretty epic. He may have developed enough to keep on the 53.
If Morton can work with him on his hands to where he can consistently catch the ball, I think he's a lock to make the team - size and blazing speed.
And like I said in another post, who else fits THAT type of WR behind Crabtree and Boldin? If either goes down, physically (and what will be asked of him), Lockette is the ONLY WR we have that fits our scheme/responsibilities...plus he has deep speed that neither Crabtree/Boldin have. Otherwise we'd have to have a slot WR (Manningham, AJ, Williams, Patton) play on the outside. The last time that happened Williams got destroyed on a crack back block and Manningham got his knee cut in half.

Here's why I'm skeptical: Lockette spent two years with the Seahawks. Objectively, they are great evaluators of talent. He had two huge catches in 2011 (2 receptions for 105 yards and 1 TD), and then didn't even make the team the following year; he was relegated to the practice squad and cut from that a couple weeks into the season.

Hey look. The guy who put together the core of our SB team.
hey look. the guy who thought taking kentwan balmer and chilo rachal in the same draft was a good idea.

This. He's got true deep speed that teams would have to respect. His biggest issues have been developing as a route runner and being more consistent catching passes. He was massive project when he came out for the draft, more athlete than football player but if he's been able to progress, he could be a useful weapon on this team.

Ultimately, I see Crabtree, Boldin, Jenkins and Patton as locks to make the team at WR.

I also expect Manningham to make it, if so, that really leaves the final spot as a tossup between Williams and Lockette. If Manningham starts off on the injured list, then I think Lockette has a pretty good chance to make this roster.
If this scenario plays out, who is returning punts?

Hope that LMJ's steps his PR game up ?
Nice article on him that just came out: http://www.sacbee.com/2013/05/19/5431627/roster-hopeful-lockette-is-learning.html#mi_rss=49ers
I don't think there is a corner on the Seahawks squad who can run with Ricardo Lockette. And, Lockette has the size and strength to fight off all that holding and mauling. With the right coaching, I just hope he can learn to run the correct routes and catch the ball. He seems to be pretty focused in with Kaepernick - could be a Victor Cruz level find there.

I had to VERY much consider this as a serious reason for him being added to my 53...clearly, we are going bigger and stronger at the WR position with Crabtree and Boldin. We are adding some muscle on the outside to combat Adderall-CB's. You can add VD and a 267 pound McDonald as well. Then we'll be attacking teams inside with guys such as AJ, Manningham, Patton, maybe Williams. You also have an H-back such as Gray and don't forget Hunter/James underneath out of the Q formation as well.

But with Lockette, he could get a few plays a game on the outside and as a CB, you don't know if he is going to run an inside crossing pattern (physical) or an out and up with his speed. He could be used very similar to how Moss was used to create space underneath starting on the outside (esp. if we can establish him early).

If Crabtree and Boldin go down, he may be that ideal player who can step in and not only shine but add another dimension (speed). Then you can also throw in AJ on the outside and use his speed as well. There are a lot of combinations you can use here!

Yup, just read that. Very good read. Check out this one too from his rookie year http://blog.seahawks.com/2011/07/29/camp-carroll-day-2/

4.27 40 at his pro day and a 10.0 100 meter dash

Hope he makes the team and can be a good receiver for us. Would also like to see him try out for kick and punt return. We really could use a guy with size and speed to stretch the field and I'm hoping Lockette can be that guy.

I'm curious as to why I haven't heard much about us using him as a return man. He has some experience from college.

And I do agree with this assessment, Lockette's timed speed doesn't fully translate to the football field. He's fast on the football field, but doesn't look like a 4.27 40 or 10.0 100 meter dash type of fast.

Nope. If he played a 4.27 on the field, he would've been on the 53 last year. Just off of GP.

Thank you...if he was as raw as stated, at 26, he should just be coming into his own very soon; sometimes development is delayed based on the stability ahead of you too.

I checked the college stats on Ricardo Lockette.

In 2008 and 2010, Lockette played in 21 games. In those 21 games, he had 42 receptions for 539 yards and 4 scores. He averaged 12.83 yards per catch.

In those two years, 2008 and 2010, he returned 18 kick-offs for 463 yards and 1 score. He averaged 25.72 yards per return.

According to a CBS story Lockette was suspended for the 2009-2010 football and track seasons after being suspended for testing for a high testosterone level at the NCAA track meet.

If you look at the Fort Valley State statistics page for 2009, Ricardo Lockette has no stats and is not listed as a member of the squad.

But, the 2010 stats page, includes stats for Ricardo Lockette in 2009, which was the year in which CBS reported him suspended. In 2009, he only played in the first six games and he had no offense stats, but he did have defensive stats.

If those stats for 2009 are correct, in his college career, in addition to his offensive stats, Lockette also had 30 tackles (14 assists and 16 solo), 5.5 sacks, 9 tackles for a loss, and three forced fumbles. (These defensive numbers include a few tackles from 2008 and 2010).

The discrepancy leaves me a bit confused. Here are the links to the pages that I used.
